New project by mode:lina

Check out this funky, modern home designed by Polish architect firm mode:lina (blogged previously here, here and here).

Newly built terraced house still in raw state fell into the hands of Poznań based architects from mode:lina just in time because it turned out that:
"These structural concrete elements are just beautiful!" and the lack of any walls immediately gave future users an overview on ground floor space.
"We love open space but is has to be cosy. We also like raw materials but they need to get some warm natural accents because of our small child. Do you think there's still room for some furniture we inherited from our parents?"
Architect's recipe for a cosy open space was to create different zones for different functions by changing material both on the floor as well as on the ceiling.
In order to bring more nature into this urban house, floor in the living room was covered with cow hide and bathroom sliding door are raw MDF with old plank print. The owner was really enthusiastic about the idea of making a tree branch chandelier:
"It can not be just any branch! I will bring one from the place where I used to spend my childhood holidays." Even purely functional aspects are matching the overall atmosphere of the house:
(He) "We have a growing collection of books. The collection of clothes grows too (fast!)
(She) "Yes, I want my wardrobe in my bedroom and it needs to be very special.” The wardrobe gets closer to nature too as it looks like a mysterious forrest with hidden doorway (the mirror).
"This house feels like a forester close to the city centre."

Another Polish apartment by Lucyna

Polish interior designer Lucyna Kołodziejska (whose work we have featured here and here) emailed us with yet another fabulous dwelling she has completed. This flat is in Gdynia, it is quite small – one bedroom, living room with small kitchen and bathroom with shower. It is designed for rent so the materials that I used are strong :) - solid oak wood in kitchen, hard floors, spain textile on sofa. But of course they should be elegant and nice designs so i used a very nice lamp in the dining – is it rubber so can't be broken, strong paints and wallpapers by scandinavian Flugger and other scandinavian company (Sandberg). It is maybe because this flat is a little bit scandinavian that a man from Sweden and his girlfriend from Poland are renting it now. I really like the masculine vibe of this apartment - Lucyna was smart with this one. She's got typically masculine colours (blues, browns and black) and plaids/checks, and then throws in the feminine touch of some cute bird wallpaper. Perfect for a rental as it will appeal to everyone. It's tiny but it works!

Black and white

Back in May I featured the home of interior designer from Poland Lucyna Kolodziejska. She emailed with some photos of a design project of hers that I adore. Some details: this flat I have designed for my client Edyta i Rafal. They have also 1 year old kid – Borys. I designed this about 1,5 year ago. Two bathrooms – one with shower, 3 bedrooms and living room with kitchen. All in black and white. Mirror in master bedroom is my project. The posters is from polish designers. Big MK it is decorating elements, doesn't mean anything. In bathroom with shower we have photo from Polish seaside. Old 100 year old table in dining with Masters by Kartell – i like these chairs. I am a HUGE fan of black and white decor so this home is really doing it for me. In a big way. With SWEET photos. (photos, design)

2kul Interior Design

Polish design is centre stage again. The creative scene in this country is hot hot hot at the moment. Case in point this stunning private home by 2kul Interior Design. mixes the right on trend black and white with layers of natural finishes, rough luxe and texture and revs it up a notch with an amazing industrial effect balustrading to the staircase. It's a clever mix of old and new and the perfect hard edged modern foil to a softened, almost shabby meets scandi vibe.

A funky restaurant

Hanna from Poland wrote us about her architecture and interior design firm called PB Studio. She thought we'd be interested in this restaurant she designed. We don't typically feature non-residential spaces but I thought the dining space of this restaurant was very inspriring. I adore the over abundance of penadnt lights, and the bench seating with wall-installed cushions is so cool! Would be perfect for a dining nook in a kitchen. The larch wood is gorgeous too!
