The Farm

On 100 acres with a view of Lake Ontario sits The Farm. Architect Cindy Renderly's clients wanted something modern but appropriate for the country. A gabled roof line is in keeping with a typical barn structure, but inside it's minimalist and not-so-farm-like. Cindy used Douglas fir plywood on the ceilings to add warmth, and it's a beautiful choice. An artist's studio is an added bonus, separated from the main house by a courtyard. Despite being a tad bleak looking in the winter, this must be such a peaceful retreat, especially in summer.

Three young architects quit their jobs, form their own firm, buy a cheap block of land and spend a year building their design themselves and end up in the dog box.
