Minimalist 2 storey apartment space within a heritage building in Amsterdam. Clean lines, sharp angles, limited colour palette and smooth surfaces. Warmed by wood elements. A steel staircase angles between the levels separating the dining and living spaces in the open plan first floor. But the hero of the space is fully equipped (albeit minimalist lined) kitchen centre stage. Design by Laura Alvarez Architecture.
Too cool! This apartment design in Amsterdam is by I Love Architecture and what's not to love. Open plan, white space anchored by substantial timber benches and a wall of kitchen storage. Yellow pendants pop from above punctuating the open space and defining areas. Cave like black tile is used to delineate the ensuite while white stairs levitate up to a rooftop chill out space. Jansje sent us a peek at another one of her photography projects - this time a houseboat in Amsterdam. (Check out previous posts of her photos here). The owner, who is in one of the photos, has done the rebuilding of this houseboat himself, and happens to be an interior designer (see his basic website). I think living in a houseboat would be a blast! When I first saw houseboats up in Yellowknife (that was back in my university days) I was mesmerized. Coincidentally I saw an episode of House Hunters yesterday where someone was looking for a houseboat in Seattle and was reminded what a cool lifestyle that would be....especially if you can take your house out for a spin down the river!
I've got one last apartment for you by James of Bricks Amsterdam (other projects here and here). In this apartment the layout was changed, everything was re-built and completely furnished. It's got a similar vibe as the other 2 - moody, comfortable, and monochromatic.
Here is another project by James, the talent behind the design firm Bricks Amsterdam. This apartment, also on the canals of Amsterdam, was completely renovated and furnished and is in keeping with James' eclectic style.
