No not that White House. This renovation project by SJB in Rye, Victoria is designed to be a place to relax, to close the door and just be. It's simple, clean lines, miminalist but not lacking in creature comforts, provide an oasis for the owners from their busy careers.
Different shades of green and blue are the heroes of the redesign of this 30th floor apartment in Kiev by Oleksii Venediktov and his design firm Special Project Venediktov. Bold, unique, a little Scandinavian with an undercurrent of industrial. I love how the colours change as the light advances and wanes changing the feel of the apartment.
When Victorian and modern come together in one home to create something pretty awesome. To be frank, I am so in love with all the woodwork in the old part of the house I could not care less what is going on in the rest. I mean, look at the photo above! AH MAH GAWD!!! Heartly designed and monitored the transformation of this dilapidated cottage into a much loved and admired family home. Careful consideration of flow and use of space was paramount to the success of this project on a small inner suburban Melbourne block.
It's what Australian architects and interior designers do so well. Take a small, older home with confused layout. Design a modern extension to create the much sort after open-plan, family living yet, importantly, retain the presence of the original home within the streetscape. And may I just say "Hello bike room!"
Dutch interior designer Robert Kolenik took what he described as a typical small Amsterdam apartment and turned it into a luxurious modern space in neutral tones that appears much larger than it is. As part of his concept, the first thing that interior designer Robert Kolenik did was to design a large wall unit to link together all the spaces in the apartment naturally. In narrower or smaller spaces, most people tend to use smaller pieces of furniture. 'I do the opposite. By putting in larger pieces, I emphasise a sense of spaciousness in the home. The floating block in dark oak creates a line in the apartment that visually enlarges the space.' Robert then added in a FOUR METRE LONG sofa (by Minotti) which offers tons of seating and while very long, still keeps the space very open. Those of you with small spaces, take note!
