Minimalism by Studio Oink

Minimalism in Melbourne

An imposing, modern extension to an old brick house in Fitzroy, Melbourne appears as if a metal box perches precariously on the roof. A series of levels cascading together with short flights of stairs and a double height void allow for "open plan" living which is light filled yet discreet. Playing with the juxtaposition of contrasts, positive and negative, open and closed, old and new has created a striking, minimalist home by Julie Firkin Architects.

The home of Barbara Í Gongini

I have an unhealthy love of avant-garde clothing, most notably from 2 designers, one of them being Barbara Í Gongini (the other is Rick Owens). One day I discovered Femina had done a story on Barbara's home in Copenhagen and I was pleased to see her minimalist home was as stylish as her clothing. I love the simplicity of it, the contrast of black and white and the subtle textures and patterns.
