A converted office space

Nicolet, a real estate developer from Amsterdam, emailed with a really impressive project she just completed that I had to share. It is an 90 m2 apartment in De Pijp area. The Ruysdaelkade is formally known as a red light district.  It is a studio with a walk-in bedroom and walk-in bathroom. I created a patio to provide more day light. I bought it as on office and turned it into an apartment. It is build around 1920 as a temporary church in name of our Queen, but unfortunately there are no signes of that anymore. Unfortunately, for the sale of houses in Amsterdam, everything needs to be pretty plain without being to eccentric. I absolutely love the simplicity of the space. It allows the gorgeous details to stand out - like the hardwood floors (YES!!). And that patio - so cool!!! (View the listing here)

bfs design

Minimalist and modern. Two spaces by Berlin based architectural firm bfs design. Retro riffs and textural wall treatments for a modernist glass atrium house or a sparsely elegant interior fitout in an historic apartment. Sophisticated and oh so German cool.

Villa Extramuros

Just outside Arraiolos in Portugal sits a contemporary building that rises from its grassy base like a minimalist monolith. Inside the high white walls is a welcoming patio and within a wonderful small hotel filled with 50s furniture with a Parisian twist. Want to run away and play in Portugal with me? Fine food, fine hosts, fine house. Very cool in more ways than one. Villa Extramuros.

Reader's home - Martin's Scandi apartment in Berlin

LOVE the following home sent in to us by Martin: We recently moved to berlin to continue our studies in architecture. We're obviously interested in scandinavian design and since we moved here I have the feeling we changed the interior every month. If I should describe our style I would say it's a good mixture of vintage classics and some modern stuff. As we have a three year old son the apartments interior is quite functional. Martin, Julia and Noah share this space, and I love how classically mid-century it is, with just the right amount of minimalism to make it homey but not stark. When you have great furnishings, sometimes less is more to really showcase the pieces. It frankly makes me want to purge.
