Saul Zaik house

I have always wanted to live in house with mid-century architecure, and I have a huge girl crush on Jessica Helgerson, so I absolutely had to share this home. This project was a thorough remodel of a 1950s house by prominent Portland architect Saul Zaik. We thoroughly reworked the interior floor plan, relocating the master bedroom and bathroom to the rear of the house, creating a mudroom, office, and laundry room, changing the proportions of a family room that had been expanded and was out of scale with the other rooms, upgrading the windows throughout, and vaulting the ceilings in the addition. Evans family home

I found this really cool New Zealand home with a midcentury modern vibe and lots and lots of wood and had to share. Designed by Bull O'Sullivan Architecture, it has some interesting features like the groupings of light fixtures throughout the main space (an electrician's nightmare) and the floor to ceiling window looking out onto the backyard. I'm not sure I could live with this much wood but it certainly makes the space feel warm and "earthy".

Another project by General Assembly

Here is another peek at a project by General Assembly. It is a single family home in Brooklyn built in the 1950s and was in desperate need of an overhaul. It now sports a mid-century modern vibe and some definite coolness. The reno included custom kitchen cabinetry with concrete counter tops; a kitchen island with built in wine storage; and additional custom storage throughout – including flip-top kitchen benches. Then there’s the solid oiled white oak suspended shelving we custom designed for the kitchen. The shelves are supported by steel bracing and anchored into a steel plate in the ceiling. By opening up the shelving above the sink, GA was able to capture the light from a nearby skylight and the surrounding windows to create an open, sun-filled environment for serious cooking. (Photos by Joe Fletcher)

Retro vintage

Ok, I had to share one last project by The New Design Group....mainly because this one was clear right away who inspired some of the bold decor choices. :) We wanted to instill a fun atmosphere in this beautiful townhouse by using a bold palette. To give the space a younger feel we decided to paint out most of the period features (to tone them down) and then layer styles from different eras for an eclectic and inviting look. We sourced and repurposed items from a variety of places: thrift shops, antique dealers, high street and custom made orders (the hot pink lacquered coffee table is based on an original design by Abigail Ahern). Bold graphics and colours, stunning light fixtures, collections displayed without being tacky, and the best pets on furniture photo I have seen in a while. What's not to love?!
