EPIC BATHROOM!!! I want to stare at this the rest of the day.

This marble is unbelievably beautiful. And with a thin profile it could not be more perfect in this kitchen. 

There is nothing fancy about this dining room but the combo of the Thonet chairs, pale yellow walls, and light fixture are simply yummy, and then you look up and BAM!

These chunky stairs. That glass framed wall. The tumbling block tile. YES YES YES. 

If I ever decide I want a graphic backsplash, THIS IS IT.

Kelly McGuill update

It has been an eternity since Jo featured some spaces by Boston-based interior designer Kelly McGuill. In all that time it seems her style has become more subdued with a bit more rustic and elegant elements. And I love every bit of these rooms. The neutral colour schemes are so soothing and I am absolutely in love with this first kitchen, which happens to be Kelly's, and THAT GREY CARRARA MARBLE IS MY JAM!!!

My credenza makeover

Yesterday I shared my dining room makeover, so today I thought I would show you what happened to my credenza. Some may love, some may hate, but it's working for now so I am going to enjoy it until I can maybe afford something fancy. 

Soon after we moved in I noticed Benjamin Curran was selling a bunch of pieces of this walnut veneer (??) vintage furniture in Montreal so off we went with my mom's massive SUV and trailer and picked up this credenza, a headboard, 2 side tables and an armoire. All for an awesome price (or free because some of it he just wanted to get rid of). I loved the somewhat brutalist pattern in the doors and still do, and it fits PERFECTLY in this alcove (7' long). It has SO much storage with pull out drawers behind the doors on the left and right sides and drawers down the centre. 

Pre-makeover of the room it was pretty cute. But then we went and refinished the floors grey. Then I had that hemlock dining table made (blonde and grey wood). After that the orange tones of this credenza were just AWFUL. We looked into buying Ikea kitchen cabinets to fit in the alcove and getting a marble top made but the cabinets alone with shelving/drawers inside would have been over a thousand dollars. YEAH. NO. And I could not find anything this long that wasn't a gazillion dollars. 

After much thought, I committed the worst crime of all and painted the credenza. It was a bitch of a job but in the end, saved me a ton of money until I can afford something totally fabulous.

The perfect kitchen

This kitchen may be familiar to many of you if you follow Beth Kirby's blog Local Milk or Instagram. I had to feature it here because this may be my favourite kitchen. EVER. Designed by the incredibly talented Jersey Ice Cream Co.. We managed to keep the existing cabinet frames by altering them, making new doors, and giving everything a fresh coat of paint. We popped in a "new" old window and built a custom range hood, plus floating shelves from reclaimed late-19th-century factory beams, and an island and additional table from old barn siding. Beth went to Atlanta to pick out a slab of marble for the counters and had a beautiful Lacanche range delivered. Then we finished up with plastered walls (half polished, half hand combed), antique brass drawer pulls from Restore in Philadelphia, and a beautiful old French faucet Tara found on eBay.

A traditional green, marble and brass kitchen

I found this deVOL kitchen the other day on JJ Locations and I was completely shocked to discover how much I really REALLY love it. It could be because living in a traditional home for a couple of years now is rubbing off on me, or the fact that my kitchen can barely fit 2 people standing in it so anything roomy makes me envious. This kitchen is situated in a 1846 Victorian in London, and while I would consider changing a couple of things (that sofa in the corner isn't working - I love the idea of a settee just not that one, the table is missing a bench and I would paint out the inside of that hutch black and fill it with white dishes), this is the best take on a traditional kitchen I think I have ever seen. I don't even really like green and I love this. Crazy!
