A feminine loft

This is the loft of interior designer Heather Garrett. It is distinctively feminine, totally gorgeous and a dream space. Especially the first room below. LOVE! Turn a 1,100 s/f warehouse loft into a spacious 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment? With some solid geometry and careful space planning, Heather did just that. Her growing family needed more space (her children, 10 and 12, were now too old to share a room), and a single bath was definitely not cutting it. With 21′ high ceilings, there was room for a badly needed second level. So Heather designed a floating staircase using locally reclaimed pine from neighboring warehouses, leading to a pair of bedroom with shared bath and “hangout” spot where the kids could read, play piano, or just get a (little) distance from mom downstairs. The result is light and bright, with a spacious feel. (Photos by John Bessler)

Leather, wood and stone

I fell in love/hate with this cottage/home in Spain featured in a recent issue of Nuevo Estilo. It's huge open layout is perfect for cottage life and would be a fantastic gathering space of lots of friends and family. The combination of rustic (reclaimed wood, stone) mixed with a leather chesterfield and plaid chair also joined with some mid-century chairs and tables - bringing such disparate pieces together really works here. However, I am baffled by all of the window treatments - massively long purple curtains (why purple? WHY??) and blinds hung way too high. AGH!! The one red, one silver light fixtures in the bathroom...bad idea. (I won't even discuss the bedding). And it is disappointing to see such a lazy approach to the ceiling and beams. Spraying it ALL white instead of leaving some of the raw wood showing, or at least the steal pieces. (Designed by Kotablue and Mercedes de las Heras)

Electric light loft

An old electric light station building is a perfect stage for this light infused loft. Luxe against rough, walls of books, tribal meets texture, industrial softened with fine fabrics, soaring ceilings and that light, that beautiful light. I have serious work place eny. The design studio of Thomas Hamel and Associates in Redfern, Sydney. Sigh.

A garage loft in Amsterdam

No, I will never tire of industrial spaces. When James van der Velden of BRICKS Amsterdam emailed to let me know he has completed a few new projects, I admittedly got pretty damn excited. He is a master at industrial decor and this Garage loft in Amsterdam is legit and so very cool. I am going to go to bed tonight dreaming about this space with a giant smile on my face. (I should IG that sh*t)

Passage Landrieu

The trip had been long. Australia is, after all, the other side of the world but as the taxi made its way towards Passage Landrieu her excitement mounted. She was in Paris. At last. Tomorrow the adventure would begin in earnest. For now, though, she stood in the doorway of the loft she would call home for the next few days. She felt in tingle run up her spine as she took it all in. So chic, so eclectic, so perfect. (Via onefinestay.)
