Swanky lamp porn

Just wanted to give a little shout out to Swank Lighting for being our new sponsor. They have some of the most gorgeous lamps we've EVER seen so we were really excited for them to be a part of our blog. Have a little peek at their wares, but beware of free-flowing drool. This is lamp porn at it's finest.

dna♔light

Amy Leonard from design♔dna emailed us this week. "I'm just dropping a line to show you my latest light projects. They are all one of a kind, made mostly of found objects, and their inhabitants often do things that might be considered a little dangerous. Some contain a circuit that would theoretically work, were it not made of jewels and porcelain and gold filled chain, so each inhabitant takes a chance in participating. All dna♔light specimens are under glass and come with schematic." I love Amy's lights, so clever and so beautiful. Ephemeral and witty. Check out more at her blog. It's a great read. How to describe it? Amy does it best, "just a collection of people and things I find beautiful, inspirational or just wicked clever... "

I haven't resized the photos so click on them to truly see the detail. Beautiful work.

Thout (provoking) design

Thout has been featured on a few blogs but I seem to have missed them until I started reading my new copy of Canadian House and Home where they are featured. Being a Canadian firm, I had to give them a shout out, because of that fact and after checking out their website, I was so impressed at the creativity of this group.

"Based in Toronto, Upper Canada, Thout is a loose group of designers formed by Patrick Turner. Thout is named after the Turner family cabin, built in the 1900’s without running water or electricity. Thout is a place where needs are met with simplicity, clarity and honesty. Our products are created in the same way."

A useful wall tile for storing all sorts of odds and ends, like kitchen utensils.A useful tile for storing everything from spices to fruit to condiments.

A useful tile for storing your utensils in a fun and space saving way. This lamp is formed by a single cloth-sheathed cord wrapped around a skeleton.

One of the coolest tables I've ever seen."Cedar stumps are made lighter when pierced with holes that look as though they could have been made by a giant worm. Holes can store beer, if required." This is quoted from the site, making it my favourite item here.

Bourgie lamp

The Bourgie lamp, designed by Ferruccio Laviani for Kartell, is one of my favourite lamps. I love the juxtaposition of the baroque shape with the modern edge of the polycarbonate plastic. So for those who share my love of this lamp, enjoy some Bourgie porn.

Artichoke pendant

The artichoke pendant is a classic design created by Poul Henningsen in 1958. It is such a stunningly beautiful light, and due to it's popularity (and hefty price tag), has often been replicated. It looks incredible in modern settings, and makes quite a striking focal point.
