A simple stylish kitchen

Sometimes you don't need all the bells and whistles. Two ovens, fridge the size of a third world country, massive island, slabs and slabs of marble on walls, floors and anywhere, butler's sink big enough to swim in, walk in pantry, flower arranging bench. I'm sure I've forgotten something. Sometimes, many times you just can't afford it even if you want it or your little home just can't fit it in. Sometimes simple is necessary, simple is good, simple is stylish. Like this little kitchen by Luke Stanley Architects.

Stalking black and white

A small terrace house in Paddington, Sydney provides plenty of inspiration for those who like their interiors black and white. Somehow they manage to squeeze 3 bedrooms (although they are not using them as such), 2 bathrooms and a flow through dining, kitchen, living space into this small inner city footprint. Tight yes but the simple colour palette, sleek surfaces and walls that open out to courtyards and the sky expand the sense of space. I must admit my favourite room is the bathroom. Graphic and chic. The atrium kitchen is clever too. Link here while it lasts.

Jimmy Schönning favourites

As promised, here are some of my favourite spaces from Jimmy Schönning's portfolio.

I love everything about this kitchen - the colour scheme, the black tiles, the massive vintage light fixture, the table and bench, the fun DIY dining space lighting, the massive knob on the fridge...the only problem is I would lose my sh*t over trying to keep everything clean with all that open storage.

I love huge decks. LOVE. The table is amazing. I want my next house to have a black exterior. And the number on the door is graphic and cool.

Everyone has had these ugly/boring mirrored sliding closets in at least one place they've lived...what a simple and effective way to de-gross them.

Beautiful colours and rustic vibe. I love burlap/linen fabrics. Especially when wrinkled.

Artichoke

Artichoke is a group of designers of the highest quality bespoke kitchens, architectural interiors and furniture in the UK. This is what I would like to call kitchen porn folks. KITCHENS KITCHENS KITCHENS. And they are FAB U LOUS. There really is nothing like a massive island to really make a kitchen.

Window seat

I love a window seat.  I love an eat in kitchen. I love a reading nook. I love this extension by Carter Williamson Architects. The heart of the home but with flexible use. The wonderful spot to cook, to come together, to entertain, to relax, to read and perfect for the Australian climate and lifestyle. Small in footprint but big on ideas.
