What's that hiding up there in the roof? You can't see it? Scroll down to the end of this post then you'll discover the delightful little secret this Victorian era house and its contemporary extension contains. East West House by Rob Kennon Architects.
Stepping down a sloping site in Kew, Melbourne is this extension containing kitchen, dining and living rooms with master bedroom suite above. In the transition space between the old Edwardian house and the new is the staircase, with exposed oak framing, providing areas for display in the nearby study nook and adjacent hallway. Along with this post comes a little story. The other day I noticed some fabulous interior photography by Ottawa photographer and the king of lighting Justin Van Leeuwen. He mentioned the spaces were created by local interior designer and small renos firm Grassroots Design. While perusing this firm's impressive website, I noticed they are located a few blocks from my house. Then while snagging some photos for this post, I discovered that the first 5 photos of this post are the kitchen and bathroom of the house next door to me! (The brick seen through the window in photo #4 is the side of my house). CRAZY! Anyway, their kitchens and bathrooms are the bees knees. LOVE!
A confection of classic 19th century era decor, Asian influences, cutting edge contemporary, colour and pattern and a clutter of mementoes. It could be the recipe for a frou frou disaster. Instead it is the inspiring and beautiful home of interior designer Suzy Vissers-Hunt (Suzy Hunt) and her husband, co-founder of Moooi, Casper Vissers in the Dutch city of Breda.
