Hacienda San Angel - part 1

During my stay in Puerto Vallarta, my husband and I had the absolute pleasure of spending 3 nights at a boutique hotel located in the heart of the city (a honeymoon treat). The Hacienda San Angel is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen and I had to share my experience there with you all. In fact, I took so many photos I may have to do a couple more posts after this one. :)

The Hacienda San Angel is colonial style, consisting of five Mexican villas (one is across the street from the other four), with a total of 14 suites. The first villa, Villa Bursus, was purchased by actor Richard Burton as a Valentine's Day gift for his then wife Susan. The hacienda has been restored over time (and a huge addition is in the works) and is filled with absolutely incredible antiques, which come from Mexico and Europe and the majority are from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. When I say filled I mean every bed, dresser, painting, bathroom fixture, light fixture etc. is an antique, which means every piece is different. My husband and I were mesmerized as we took a couple tours around the entire hacienda and I photographed just about every inch of the place. Hopefully my photos do it justice. My post today will feature the suite we stayed in - the San Jose. (There are alot of photos of the bed because not only was it gorgeous, but the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The linen top sheet, down duvet and pillows you sink into....*sigh*)

Riad Enija

In a far away land, in a secret world of beauty, exotic luxury awaits.  A sigh has just escaped my lips. A dream, a fantasy. A reality for a special few. If I found a genie in a lamp and set him free I would want just one wish.  Riad Enija via Welcome Beyond.

Bliss berge

A few months ago I was dreaming of escaping to paradise or beyond, vacation homes showcased by Welcome Beyond.  Chris from Welcome Beyond has promised to feed my holiday fantasies with new properties soon but in the meantime I'm taking a virtual vacation to berge in Aschau im Chiemgau, Bavaria, Germany.Managed by Nils Holger, a furniture designer, berge is all about the details. "It’s all about designing 'berge' not in a classic style, but to penetrate through to every detail. When there was no suitable door handle, we had it crafted by a blacksmith. The towels and bath robes were custom-made for the house, an old man in town turns wood into the bowls we use and for silverware we didn’t buy something just because it was nice or cheap, but only what was best suited." As a design junkie those words are music to my ears. Raw timber, Glühwein and snow. The perfect trinity for a girl sweltering in cyclonic humidity.

Sleep in the city

The flood waters have receded and things are grindingly returning to normal for a lot of us here. The flood survivors face a mammoth clean up job. I feel very petty complaining about the 4 and a half hour return journey I now face each day to get to work (flood damaged train lines). First mud and now a thick dried crust cover everything and the devastation is heartbreaking. I want to run away to this pristine white dream of a boutique hotel in Belgium. A girl's shopping break? Yes please. And no mud in sight! Sleep in the City via the ever fabulous Studio Anndacht.
