A dreamy Paris apartment

I could not love this Paris apartment more. Seriously spectacular detail. By Studio Razavi Architecture.

Before Baron Haussmann started gutting Paris under Napoleon the 3rd, a wave of modernization had started in the center of Paris where new buildings had gone up according to a different set of rules which would ultimately lead to what is known as the Haussmannian type. This apartment is located in such building and its decorative influence (both on the facade and inside apartments) bares a Greek influence, rather than Neoclassical, which would be generalized for later buildings.
As in most apartment renovations in older buildings, the layout was radically modified as the kitchen was brought right next to the front entrance and left as an open space and a master suite was created where the kitchen was formerly located. We undertook heavy restoration of original features (more specifically a remarkable wood floor) and created a smooth transition with remodeled areas so as to preserve the feel of an early 19th century apartment. Whenever possible, contemporary elements were introduced which, in combination with the furniture selection, create a lively and modern interior.

A Chelsea home full of drama

I could not be more enthralled with this home in Chelsea (London) home designed by Shalini Misra. Impeccable attention to detail, totally unique and so much drama. I absolutely love every single thing in this home....except that dining table would make me completely mad with all the fingerprints (and I don't even have kids!)

Minimalist in white and pale grey

This Victorian terrace home in London is a stunner. Left minimal due to it being a location home, I can just imagine these gloriously bright spaces with some personal touches and some plants added throughout. Loving all of the bright white walls and bits of pale grey, brass hardware and minimalist lighting and WHOA that herringbone oak parquet floor! A real beauty. Available via Shoot Factory

Fun colours in an apartment in Milan

A huge thanks to Edward for sending us a link that led us to Italian architecture and design firm Marcante - Testa (formerly UdA that I was a huge fan of and featured several projects here). They kindly sent over photos of all of their residential projects and OH LA LA!!! Lots of good stuff but this 150 m2 apartment in Milan might be my favourite. In love with the unique paint combinations, the flooring (including the painted detail) and the fun wallpapers. LE TEMPS RETROUVÉThe visual relationship with nature was the guiding motivation behind the choice of this place on the part of the client. Materials like wicker, Vienna straw and linen that form seats, accessorized dividers, wardrobe doors, the fake marble laminate of the kitchen table, the wicker headboards of the beds, join forces to stimulate memories of spaces, perhaps experienced in a "grandmother’s house", reinterpreted here and rendered functional for contemporary needs. A "light" project made of decoration and furnishings (vintage and custom) for a house to make on a tight schedule and a suitable budget for a rental, where the architectural structure of the building has not been altered, though its spatial perception has been improved. The view of the spaces changes and varies depending on the chromatic contrasts on the walls, using resin for the floors that partially covers the wood to become a “carpet” to mark the position of the table and its chairs. Sourcing details are here. An apartment in Milan in dark neutrals

I found this exquisite apartment in Milan by interior designer Paolo Badesco and had to share because Europeans always seem to know what to do when it comes to architecture and not following rules. There is nothing trendy about this apartment and that is why I love it. Also, THOSE CHEVRON WOOD FLOORS. AND THAT MARBLE BATHROOM. WOW! As an aside, I can't stop laughing. Did the dog in the photo above eat the trim on the door and this is his guilty face?
