Helen Quinn

Beautiful rich colour studies by stylist and artist Helen Quinn. Dark and brooding and saturated her work plays with texture, juxtaposition and natural dyes and finishes. No pictures of stylish chairs in beautiful rooms but just as inspiring. The dark side still tugs at my heart strings.

Joanna Laajisto

Helsinki based interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto's philosophy is "not to clutter this world with unnecessary things but to find the hidden beauty of each space and to enhance it by creative solutions." Two inspiring projects. The first Bar&Co, a modern take on a 1920's bistro. Think marble, oak, leather, wrought iron and copper. Love the hand forged copper candle sconces. The second a dark and brooding minimalist home. A modern interior of rich woods and contemporary furniture.

Join me for a drink?

Oh my! What a day! I think a stiff drink is in order. Perhaps some good company to help me wind down. Somewhere dark and moody. Quirky, stylish, fabulous. Now if I was just on the Lower East Side in New York. The Experimental Cocktail club designed by Chzon.

When my house grows up it wants to be this house

Drama. Dark rich drama. Style and panache. Subtropical gardens and a grand old house that has grown and evolved over the generations. On trend and reported to be in an upcoming interiors magazine, this Byron Bay house is my latest real estate stalking target. I've been seduced and I think you will be too. There is very little I would change. Dark  walls, fuchsia pink coffee table, rich green sofas and sparkling chandelier. Yes please. Kitchen and family dining, perfect for my needs. The hallway is an entrance to paradise. (Calm down Jo.) Perhaps we should arrange an inspection to see just how good it is in person. Byron Bay here we come! Link here while it lasts.

A shot in the dark

I came across this absolutely stunning home the other day on Le case di Elixir and fell in love. The architecture is phenomenal. Those arches, the soaring ceilings (I'm assuming this is a converted church), and there's something about bumpy plaster walls that makes me swoon. And the darkness of this home makes it so much more dramatic. I would without question love to live here...with most of the furnishings as well.
