Dark and dramatic

There is something so damn sexy about a dark, minimalist space. Dramatic architecture and decor, including a staircase that is getting me all hot and bothered, by Minale + Mann. (Photos: Graham Atkins-Hughes)

A renovated Victorian in London

When old becomes new, and no expense appears to have been spared in the renovation of this semi-detached 4 story, 3,700 sq ft Victorian in Brixton, London. The dark grey stained herringbone hardwood floors are fantastic, and so much drama was added simply by painting the stairs, doors and their frames and some built-in bookcases black. This is classy yet liveable and significant attention to detail in the finishes. Glorious! Available as a location home through the one and only Shoot Factory

Winifred Crescent House

Another doozy by Sisällä but this one is darker and has a more sophisticated vibe. The kitchen is a total dream. I have always loved the idea of having windows as a backsplash and am currently trying to convince one of my sisters to plan for this when she renovates her kitchen. Hoping these photos will convince her. :) The interiors for this new house were designed to balance a contemporary minimal house with a welcoming ambienceThe interiors have a timeless aesthetic; the richly textured travertine stone combined with dark timber and elegant black steel details creates visual interest. The final layering of furniture, lighting and décor have been selected to enhance the interior architecture. Sheep + Stone - Primrose house

I am reeeally loving the vibe of this Los Angeles home designed by Brooklyn-based Sheep + Stone. A bit New York funky, a bit vintage mid-century with a dark, neutral colour palette this place is just really cool and classically modern. The windows in this house are a dream. Makes me want to paint mine black. (Photos: Nicole Franzen)

A dark apartment

Black kitchen cabinets, black dining chairs, black backsplash, black/blue bedroom walls and cupboard, black tile bathroom....this Potts Point, Sydney apartment designed by architect and interior designer Tom Ferguson (TFAD) is dark and fabulous and not at all dreary. This moody space is subtly glamorous and there is not a white wall in sight! And I am in love with the bathroom, and that Cole & Son Nuvole Fornasetti mural.
