A cabin in the woods x 2

I am sitting here blogging listening to city busses whizzing by, helicopters landing, ambulance sirens (I live across from a hospital) and the kids next door screaming and I need to remind myself why I love city living. Especially when there are beautiful, rustic dwellings like this around where all you hear are the sounds of crickets and birds chirping. I couldn't decide between these two so you get both. Beechwood Farm in Alabama followed by McIlvain Farm in St. Simon's Island, Georgia, by Summerour & Associates Architects.

Quintessentially English

Close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of the quintessentially English country home. Mine has boot rooms and sculleries, flagstones and wood burners, antiques and quirky family treasures. There are bedrooms under the eaves, beams and hopefully a roll top bath. Of course there would be a big kitchen diner with room for a sofa or two and a snug for those chilly nights. The thing is I don't have to close my eyes. I just have to drink in these photos of The Stables by hám interiors. Can't get much more English ... oh maybe a chocolate labrador lying by the fire.

Some English country in Texas

Every inch of this rather large home in Houston, Texas is just gorgeous. Once again proving to myself that I am appreciating more traditional decor these days, this home designed by Fern Santini is English country done with casual elegance. The decor is superb, but the architectural details of the room below has completely blown me away. I will go out on a limb and say that is the BEST. ROOM. EVER. (Architect: Paul Lamb)

Birdie Farm

I came across the Instagram account of Lucy Rose of the blog Birdie Farm recently and was instantly taken with how absolutely homey, cozy and gorgeous her home is. She creates the most beautiful vignettes with a distinctive rustic tone, which works perfectly in her rustic Colorado home. Now if she were a bit more south I'd be banging down her door begging to move in! Go give her a follow if you aren't already, and prepare yourself to fall in love.

A home in the Laurentians by APPAREIL architecture

What a dreamy, modern cottage-type home that was recently transformed by Montreal firm APPAREIL architecture. Built in 1922 and located in the Laurentian Mountains of southern Québec, this firm was challenged to create harmony between the exterior and interior, all with timeless and Nordic aesthetics.

The new façade is now punctuated with large windows, especially towards the rear of the house, opening it up to the surrounding forest. White was used throughout the house to give a bright and sleek look. Elements such as the kitchen ceiling and the thickness of some walls were preserved, as a nod to the past of the house and its many transformations.
