Random on a Thursday

I am STILL super busy, and after tomorrow my life should be back to it's usual hectic pace. I have a ton of stuff to get done today, and tonight I am going to see my coworker Jack and his wife Shannon (Jupiter Ray Project) perform at the National Arts Centre. I thought I'd give them a plug because their music is awesome and Jack has been on parental leave since March and I miss him. Anyway, while I scarfed down breakfast I went through my sister's photo stash and found some random photos for a Thursday.

Jeff Andrews at it again

Jo and I just got the scoop on the latest designs from one of our favourite designers, Jeff Andrews. The first 3 photos are too cute for words - rooms for a young boy and his baby sister. The other photos are of a new project - a home in the Hollywood Hills (photographed by Grey Crawford). Stunning, as always.

ducduc @2Modern

I was just perusing 2Modern's site and came across a company that was unfamiliar to me, called ducduc. Am I ever glad I discovered them! They have the most fabulous modern furniture, mostly for kids and babies. Any soon-to-be parent (or anyone as they also carry some adult furniture) with a modern aesthetic needs to go have look. And they have so many colour options and fabric options like Marimekko and Knoll.

"ducduc is a collaborative design house based in new york city, designing lifestyle furniture utilizing four core principles: quality, environment, community, and design. All ducduc pieces are hand-made by expert craftsmen. Their hardwoods come from local, sustainably managed forests in New England and they use only non-toxic, pollutant free finishes. They own their factory in Connecticut, assuring that everything is made-here, and allowing ducduc to minimize both their waste and carbon emissions. All ducduc pieces are timeless and versatile, letting you express your own creativity and style throughout your home and into your child's rooms."

Oeuf, at 2Modern

My twin sister is graciously providing me with a second niece or nephew in November, and occasionally sends me links to baby furnishings and artwork for the nursery she's setting up in her former guest bedroom. When I came across the Oeuf line at 2Modern, I had to show my sister as I was smitten with the clean modern lines. "Like the contours of its namesake, Oeuf™ is about simple, clean design applied to the necessities of a well-equipped nursery. Oeuf's™ founders and designers, Sophie Demenge and Michael Ryan, are a French-American husband-and-wife team based in Brooklyn, New York. As part of a new generation of design-conscious and environmentally-aware parents, they realized they had to redesign everything themselves to merge their existing aesthetics with traditional nursery design. They believe strongly that while babies don't need many items, they do need some essential pieces. Oeuf's™ mission is to make those essentials practical and stylish, without compromising quality and safety - their top priority." I'm so amazed at how cool kid's furniture can be, thanks to the creativity of folks like those at Oeuf.

Reader request for help

Liisa from NY wrote the other day looking for ideas: "My next project is to fix a bedroom for my 11 year old twin girls. They start middle school next fall and I want to decorate our downstairs big (13 x 18 feet) bedroom for them. They have been sharing a room all their life and like to do so but now that they are getting into their teen years I would like to create some private space for each of them as well. The girls also like to do all kinds of projects so some sort of workstation is in plans. Any cool ideas?"

I love this request because I have an identical twin sister and while we had our own rooms growing up, we always insisted on having sleepovers every night in each other's room. But then we each had our own room to decorate! (And I moved my furniture around every weekend, almost as frequently as I do now!) Hopefully the following photos will help give you some ideas of how to arrange the room and what style might work for the girls. I think if you put the beds at one end of the room, with curtains on hospital tracks between them so they can have privacy when they want, and then do one long desk on the other end with storage cubbies above to stash art/school supplies, that ought to keep them happy. :)
