The Farm

On 100 acres with a view of Lake Ontario sits The Farm. Architect Cindy Renderly's clients wanted something modern but appropriate for the country. A gabled roof line is in keeping with a typical barn structure, but inside it's minimalist and not-so-farm-like. Cindy used Douglas fir plywood on the ceilings to add warmth, and it's a beautiful choice. An artist's studio is an added bonus, separated from the main house by a courtyard. Despite being a tad bleak looking in the winter, this must be such a peaceful retreat, especially in summer.

office of mcfarlane biggar

The office of mcfarlane biggar is an architecture and design firm based in North Vancouver. Their portfolio has plenty of modern designs with a mid-century, Dwell-magazine-lovin' vibe. What I really love about these creative folks is this: We are champions of wood in buildings – where it makes sense to utilize its structural and aesthetic properties. Recognized as leaders in the use of innovative wood technologies, we have maintained this focus throughout our firm’s history. Many of our projects demonstrate our ability to provide simple, yet innovative wood solutions that bring warmth and character to spaces while also drawing from a local resource that speaks to the natural history and wood processing industry of our region. AMEN! An architecture firm after my own heart.

A little country

We don't post many traditional/country spaces here, I mostly don't because I am generally not a fan. But these spaces designed by Montreal interior designer Scott Yetman are an exception. I really enjoy these tranquil, liveable designs and their neutral colour palettes. There just needs to be a dog and some cats curled up in front of the fireplace and a cup of hot apple cider in my hand and LE SIGH.

A modern home in Toronto

Check out this Toronto home that Lorena sent us the link to. It is a bit minimalist-harsh on the outside (someone called it an iPhone house...and check out the decrepit tiny bungalow next door) but I really like the interior layout. The decor could use a little personality and maybe a tiny bit of colour but these are real estate photos, and this home was listed for about $3.2 million. Yep, Toronto real estate is pretty outrageous. And this apparently sold pretty quickly. (Thanks Lorena!)
