The perfect canvas

Don't get me wrong. I love colour. You only have to look at my own home. But sometimes I'm stopped in my tracks by a stunning home that is all about white. Not sterile or cold white on white but white as a beautiful canvas on which to display your treasures. This Silver Lake, Los Angeles home by interior designer Stefani Stein is the perfect example of fresh, vibrant white grounded with texture and natural finishes as well as pops of colour.

Bathroom envy

I could barely contain myself when I spotted this first bathroom designed by Los Angeles-based Daniela Malca Benloulou. It is going in my inspiration folder for my eventual bathroom renovation as I wanted to do something very similar with a tile on the wall, a vintage dresser as the vanity (already purchased - it just needs the back half chopped off) and a blingy mirror. I added in a couple of other bathrooms she has designed as she seems to have some serious skills in this department.

Modern kitchen and bathroom remodel

It has been quite some time since we featured a project by Dieter Vander Velpen Architects so we were excited when Dieter emailed with some photos of another project. This time it is the remodel of a kitchen and bathroom in a 70's villa near the Belgian town of Leuven. The brief was to create an open, bright kitchen with plenty of workspace and a clutterless look. For the bathroom, the main request was to create a luxurious and calming atmosphere on a limited surface. The kitchen is a modern dream - I ADORE cooking niches like this one, featuring a countertop in polished granite and backsplash in hammered granite. The island is pretty fabulous too where 5 different materials come together: black Zimbabwe granite, dark stained Walnut veneer, polished Calacatta marble, patinated bronze and the black lacquered Vola taps. In the bathroom it is all about beautiful travertine. The results are timeless, modern, understated luxury. (Photos: Thomas De Bruyne)
