Robert Couturier

I am a little shocked to discover we haven't featured design god Robert Couturier on this blog, until now. He is based in New York, has been featured in just about every shelter magazine there is, and has been included on Architectural Digest's Top 100 Designers list on several occasions. His work is totally glamorous, luxurious, bold, witty and frankly, makes me want to throw a party. In those spaces.

Gregga Jordan Smieszny

Alex Jordan and Dan Smieszny are co-presidents of the architecture and design firm Gregga Jordan Smieszny whose work has been published in countless Architectural Digests and House Beautiful among others. I admire the diversity of their work - it spans mid-century, art deco, neoclassical, modern and more. No matter what style, it all reads as elegant and sophisticated.

Callas Shortridge Architects

"The work of our firm is built upon a series of oppositions that are meant to set up a dynamic tension: privacy and exposure, light and shadow, mass and plane. The site inspires the form. Through a careful response to its orientation, context and topography, we allow each design to evolve naturally from the character of its site. The ground anchors the design while the roof acts as a counterbalance unfolding above the landscape." Such wonderfully thought-out spaces and beautiful materials. I'm officially wowed.

Temporary beauty lasting impact

Scott Weston emailed with pictures of what he calls perishable architecture (and I call one amazing party space). I'll let him explain.

"Thought you might like to see a project we term perishable architecture. A dinner party for the latest Nokia 8800 phone based on the reference to light. We hand glittered all shapes & sizes of lanterns & they looked spectacular. The model demonstrates to the Client our design intent & then the remaining images show the real object. We even designed laser cut black leather placemats- very cool!"

Cool?!!! The whole event looks spectacular! How long did it take to stop finding glitter where you least expected Scott? Scott and his design team have an impressive portfolio of this sort of temporary beauty. You can find more of Scott's work that he has shared with us here and here.

Wolveridge Architects

With a base in gritty urban Collingwood in Melbourne, Australia Wolveridge Architects design a broad range of project types but are especially well known for their work in coastal and rural areas. Core to their designs is exploring the relationship of the site and its environs and the role of ecologically sustainable designing using passive design techniques and sustainable building systems and recycled materials. Green never looked so urban.
