Greenhouse by Joost

Eco-friendly, sustainable design, pop-up restaurant by Joost Bakker for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The building and furniture are made from reclaimed or recycled materials, organic waste is composted and feeds the herbs, no mains electricity (it's generated and fuelled by pure, unrefined canola oil), wall cladding and structural bracing is all-natural, formaldehyde-free plywood. (You can read more on Joost's site). Raising grid like around the structure is Joost's signature reo bar grid gardens. Bringing nature inside...sort of

The photo above totally reminded me of this post. I love this idea ALOT. It's like art that's alive and always changing. Guess it wouldn't have the same effect up here in Ottawa. That box would be filled with snow in the winter. Maybe not so fun to look at every day as such a focal point. (Via Nuevo Estilo)

Schuchart/Dow

 

Schuchart/Dow is a talented firm of contractors based in Seattle. These folks have a deep aesthetic appreciation for design and craftsmanship and a respect for how the built environment intersects with the natural - all of which is definitively showcased in their portfolio. How could you not love a little pond outside your bedroom or bathroom? And there is something beautiful about a pool surrounded by grass rather than typical concrete/stone. Also have to point out how gorgeous the horse photograph is. (To note: the first home is designed by Olson Kundig Architects, the second by various people and the third by Suyama Peterson Deguchi).

Matt Woods and Avido

Hip, cool and clever. Matt Woods again? No this time I'm talking about his design for Avido. Macramé on the ceiling (a Sarah Parkes piece), old brick walls balanced by warm timber counters, slashes of colour and an eclectic collection of classic furniture. Avido means greedy and I'm certainly eager to use some of these ideas in my own home. Photos by Will Reichelt.

Matt Woods and an Enmore house

One to watch. New kid on the block. Rising star. Top 10 Forces and Faces. OTT with the hyperbole? I don't think so. Matt Woods is definitely a name to bookmark. This Sydney designer is turning up in all the best design mags and being shortlisted for design awards. The look is eclectic with a balance of raw and minimal, his approach about sustainability and adaptive re-use. Think gritty city meets cool way to live. First up today this Enmore, Sydney house. The renovation of this old terrace included the kitchen and bathroom. Love the recycled timber as wall cladding, the Moroccan riff to the bathroom and the Henry Pilcher Block 2 pendant.
