Oak beams and half timbered walls, flagstones and horse brasses. It all adds up to a quintessential English cottage but this house by i gigi is layered with contemporary, French and Asian influences. A monochromatic melody of old and new, local and global, natural and neutral.

Shannon Wollack and Brittany Zwickl of LA-based interior design firm Life.Style. are all about bold statements. Bright colours often used in large doses, graphic tiles and shiny brass make for some sexy spaces that are fun and dramatic. The bathroom above is everything and then some.

Stalking Sydney

I'm stalking a lovely family home in inner city Sydney. The Woollahra property is by Dowse Architects with interiors by Anna Carin Design. Ah you say. You thought it looked familar. Yes I featured it a few years ago but it's great to see how the house has matured and to peek into other rooms not seen on the designer's website. Link here while it lasts.

Laid back mid century

Australia's Gold Coast is a tourist glitter strip with showy apartment blocks that grow ever higher and ostentatious McMansions devouring two, three or even more original holiday homes. How refreshing to see a mid century gem returned to its laid back 50's hipster glory with a mix of classic, contemporary and custom designed pieces by Brisbane-based Anju Designs. A library to envy

My third floor 'loft' room, since we moved in, was a feral cat rescue sanctuary/junk room and continues to be so as other projects around the house take priority. When I came across this library/garage space I nearly had a stoke. What an amazing space to hang out, enjoy peace and quiet and read a book. I would even consider taking up yoga if I could do it with all that room to move and those views! By Ziegler Antonin Architecte.
