Wallpaper love

I adore wallpaper. I adore wallpaper because I adore pattern. The wallpapers available these days are SO creative and fun. I've been wondering if maybe I should wallpaper somewhere in my house. Maybe the powder room. Or in the upstairs hallway. The walls are all in pretty rough shape from being patched up over the past 90 or so years so maybe this would help hide the mess (they are smooth at least). I thought by finding some photos of great wallpapers, I might get inspired to actually go through with it. Or at least inspire someone else to wallpaper something.

Thom Filicia

Thom Filicia is a brilliant interior designer. I typically prefer rooms with bold colour and patterns but his mostly muted colour palette is so refreshing and I'm in love with all the furniture and artwork. OH LA LA. Some folks that represent Thom emailed me incredible photos of some of his work. The first three are from one of Thom's personal residences, the following four are from a Kips Bay project, and the others are from his online portfolio. (Thanks David!)

Kimberley Seldon

Interior Designer, author, TV host and producer, keynote speaker, furniture designer, inspiration travel guide and style mentor Kimberley Seldon still has time in her hectic schedule to create these beautifully serene and sophisticated spaces. Elegant, muted palettes are infused with a luxe look. She's a Canadian design dynamo!

So freaking angry right now

This post has nothing to do with design or anything even remotely related but I am so pissed off I had to post about this. A Flickr friend Liz, also from Ottawa, posted a photo of her cute dog Paddington earlier tonight and there was quite a long description with it that I read and got more and more furious as I read it. See, Liz recently got a house and knew she wanted 2 dogs now that she has the space and wanted to get a rescue dog. (YAY Liz!) She found a Shih Tzu on the website of a local shelter and called to find out more information. Turns out the shelter wants a whopping SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for the dog because she is a miniature Shih Tzu and this is apparently rare. Liz was pretty angry about this and I TOTALLY agree. That is CRAZY to ask that much for a dog at a shelter. Apparently crazy to most folks because the dog, named Tica, is still not adopted. This shelter is in Gatineau, Quebec, and I have to say that if the Ottawa Humane Society had done that and word got out, the shit would hit the fan. I don't know how they can get away with this. This appears to be the norm there because their website says nothing about adoption prices, unlike at other shelters where the price is regulated. It just broke my heart to hear this, to learn that they are trying to make as much money as they can off this little helpless dog. Then I saw her photo. And I'm fighting back tears, because she would have had a great life with Liz.

Omniarte Design

Omniarte Design is the multi-faceted design firm of Erinn Valencich. After reading the "about" section of her website, I'm amazed at her talents. She's been on numerous TV shows, writes columns for magazines, has done food and prop styling, is working on a cooking show, and has even trained horses. I'll of course focus on her interior design talent. Her portfolio is incredible, filled with modern rooms that are layered in geometric patterns and hits of colour. I would give my right arm AND a cat for that red mirror.
