Brick house

Melbourne-based design practice mckimm create contemporary, stylish spaces from design to construction. This U-shaped home wraps itself around an outdoor kitchen, firepit and pool. A modern industrial vibe is warmed by walls of exposed brick while the use of concrete unites its open spaces.

Big and bold

This London home for rent via Domus Nova is beyond incredible. The architectural features are so typical of London and OH SO FABULOUS, and the furnishings and bold use of colour play off really well with the grandeur of the home (though admittedly not for everyone). It is 6200 sq ft spread out over 5 stories, has 6 double bedrooms with 6 ensuite bathrooms, a decked roof terrace, a great backyard. What an absolute dream!

Monday's pets on furniture

If you would like to send me photos to include in the next pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off...and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net. Thanks!

Stalking a church conversion

I do love a good church conversion. There is something about the challenge of doing justice to what is the often imposing, original architecture and accommodating the needs of modern living. This 1888 former Methodist church with its vaulted timber ceiling and beautiful stainglass windows has been converted into a commercial space at the front and 3 floors of living space. Unfortunately the striking series of white boxes and voids is let down in the listing by what appears to be a few sticks of furniture cobbled together to save it from being empty. My imagination is ticking over with what I would do to decorate the Queenscliff, Victoria conversion if it were ever mine. Link here while it lasts.

Home & Delicious

I love to start the working week with a virtual holiday have you noticed? Now if I could only find a way to actually make it to Reykjavík, Iceland to stay at Home & Delicious, in one of their three beautifully refurbished apartments in a quiet residential area in the heart of the city, then I'd be beyond happy. Only problem is I can't make up my mind which apartment to stay in. I'll have to try all three. Via Welcome Beyond.
