A Brooklyn rowhouse for booklovers and cats

Most of you will know why I wanted to share this post with you. Being a cat mom to many, it's a dream of mine to have a house that coordinates some designs for the cats within the architecture. Design and architecture firm Barker Freeman was asked to convert this Brooklyn rowhouse into a series of lively, light-filled spaces and to provide accommodations for the homeowners two shy but inquisitive cats — including ways for the cats to slip away from unexpected guests. My ferals would totally appreciate that, and they would love this home as much as I would. 

I must point out the fact that the bookshelf wall not only has the top accessible to the cats but they can get up there via shelves that project to create invisible steps.

Trap doors allow the cats access to second floor rooms at either end of the house. :)

Trap doors for cats, hilarious! Our cat would love this, pop up beside the bed in the middle of the night and demand breakfast even earlier. Very pet-friendly design!

Just the best; lucky cats!!! I guess my only question would be accessibility to the catwalk and tunnels for cleaning purposes.

This is amazing. I have seen this kind of thing done before, but it always ends up looking like a crazy, cat-lady house!! This just looks great and if the cats weren't in the photos, you would just think it was a creative designer who came up with the bookcases!

Adore the design, colors, furnishings, inviting and comfortable feel ... and most of all, the extraordinary consideration given to the cats of the house. It's a happy thing to see homes that are compassionate places for animals instead of homes that display the dismal art of taxidermy.

I'm more of a Dog Person, but this is a fine tribute to the feline requirements. Bravo! Shame that there has to be inside storage of the bike.

Smart design. Like Tina stated, usually Solutions like this look like crazy cat Lady home, but this one is practical and beautiful.

Very nice! I wish they'd shown what system they are using for the litter boxes though. If they could make it look as tidy and pristine as the rest of the home, that would REALLY impressive.

Love this house! I caught your misuse of the word "ferals" in the intro and figured you meant your "domesticated housecats", rights? I mean true ferals are not the kind of animals most people would bring into there nice home. Good day!

I did not misuse the term feral. 3 of my cats I ended up rescuing when there were about 8 months old so they were a bit too old to be completely domesticated. So I call them feral. They aren't so much anymore (although 1 basically spends all of her time hiding in the basement ceiling so she I would consider feral) but I cannot pick them up and would never be able to put harnesses on them.
