Jo has featured the work of interior designer Katie Martinez a few times here but not this insanely beautiful black and white tiled bathroom. With the gold accents it is to die for, and pretty much my dream bathroom. I threw in some photos from other random projects of hers too because everything she touches is a gem.

I was at a typical Summer Solstice beer brewing and artisanal cheese making celebration at a house in SE Portland last weekend and happened to use a bathroom that looks just like the one in this post. Amazing that hipster chic has now gone mainstream!

Kim, yes, they are both beautiful bathrooms but as a fellow design professional, don't you agree that it kinda sucks to give credit and praise to someone whose design is obviously not wholly original to themselves. In the spirit of professionalism and fairness, it might be nice to do a little more than simply say "Huh" and call it good.
I don't know the details of whose design was created first and I am not going to get into it because this was a post about Katie Martinez's work that doesn't solely include this bathroom. If this was Capree's design that Katie copied, then kudos Capree - I absolutely love it. The link to Capree's post is now 3 times here in the comments if anyone wants to check it out.
Hmmmmm. Was in Portland last year and actually showered in the bathroom from which this look was blatantly copied. Ms. Martinez, I think you may owe my friend a royalty, no?? What exactly did you design?? Funny thing, the Internet, keeps everything and time stamps it also. I suggest you give credit where it's due. And you will always have the link from which it was lifted.
I have to agree with Kim. Both are lovely bathrooms. Kim did not say that this is new work by the designer. Katie Martinez' website does not say when this bathroom was designed. It may very well be that it was created before the other bathroom. We do not know and we should not accuse someone of something if we do not know the facts for certain. White subway tiles are a common material, brass is a fad of quite a few seasons now, patterned encaustic tile is common and even dark ceilings are not uncommon in the pages of magazines and on blogs. Perhaps we should believe in co-incidence. It is just as likely as any accusation of someone copying someone.

First, thanks! Yes, they are both lovely bathrooms. My only issue with this is that Katie Martinez is a professional interior designer who was paid for this. I would have absolutely no issue if this was another homeowner who had wanted to re-create the look. Just for reference, here are links to Katie's Pinterest account, where she actually pinned images of my bathroom... before 'designing' the one shown here.

Hopefully that helps answer any questions about which design came first. That said, Katie is obviously talented and a successful designer, which is why this feels so icky to me. I am not an interior designer. My bathroom was designed solely and completely by me (a process I started in 2013). I sourced everything myself. I did not see a photo of someone else's bathroom, designer or otherwise, and then adapt it to my own needs. Again, it's the fact that Katie has clearly used large parts of my bathroom design as her own, got paid, and will no doubt get further business as a result, that doesn't really sit well with me.
Obviously, in the long run, none of this even matters. I'm not trying to get anything out of this, and would rather it not get any more ridiculous. But, as the one whose work and creativity was ripped off, I simply had to say something.
And Kim, for what it's worth, I've been a Desire to Inspire reader since the very beginning. I love your site and all the inspiration you and Jo provide on a daily basis!
Capree K, I love your bathroom, which was so beautifully conceived and well executed that it evidently inspired a professional interior designer! I have re-pinned both yours and hers, with proper credit given. Congratulations on a job well done! :)

Wow, late to the game on this but am I the only one who sees two black, white and brass bathrooms? As an earlier poster stated, none of which are unusual. The only specifically similar item is the floor tiles. Talk about mountain out of mole hill! At best inspired, certainly not the same bathroom!
