Georgian minimalism

An almost derelict Grade II listed Georgian town house in Marylebone, London has been brought back to life by McLaren.Excell. With many originally features concealed or ripped out, the architects revealed, restored or replaced like for like. Where they could, contemporary inserts were placed within the fabric of the building clearly contrasting with the old but using materials sensitive to the existing house.

I'm loving that cantilevered kitchen bench. The extra structural engineering is worth it for the flawless elegance of the shape.

I just don't 'get it.' Why take a place full of history and annihilate so much of it?

If you go to the website Simplyb and read the description of the job you will see that almost everything was gone or changed already when the owner bought it and they put so much back like windows, transoms, fireplaces, architraves, shutters, floors etc. then where they were allowed by heritage control they added minimalist areas. The Georgian style is very minimalist in a way itself compared to other eras.

You know, it looks a little extreme in places, but I think it works. I'd need more softness, maybe with textiles, to be really comfortable. Love the lights in the stairwell and the wall next to the tub.
