My new house?

I spotted this home in Derek Swalwell's portfolio and was immediately smitten. I had to show my husband, as this style of home would be perfect when we get around to planning our new house. I love the angles of the top level, the front balcony surrounded in wood, and the exterior finishes are exactly what I'm looking for. Add another level and I'm sold. :)

Very cool.. part warehouse, part modern cabin.. a level where the next door neighbor's house is would make it balanced and give you the chance to incorporate a third material too. I remember finding my dream home, it is such a warm fuzzy feeling :)

Love this house! And love your blog too!

This house made me think of a house that was built for the Finnish housing fairs, in Kokkola 2011. I thought you might like it too :)

The interiors where done by the super talented Susanna Vento.

Umm, yeah. I know this place, drive past it often. It's totally out of place in the neighbourhood of period homes. Too bulky and big for the narrow street and the narrow site, doesn't look as nice in real life as it looks in the photos. Let's just say, I can see why it's photographed in the first photo in fading light.

It's increasingly the style of renovations and infill developments in the area. I assume the cladding is cheaper than brick and longer lasting than the weatherboard (timber) of more sympathetic work. My neighbours are going up at the back and I fear it's going to be in this style. Bring on the screening trees!

Must remember to take a photo of a truly horrible one to send you - an upper storey that looks like something from Close Encounters, just dropped on top of a period brick home from the 30s.

I don't mind contemporary stuff, but I don't think this is a great example.

Beautiful. I like the way it sort of references the roofline of the neighbouring houses while still being modern.
