Love that fireplace.... and that coffee bar is so refreshing, nothing wrong with a little unexpected funky touch.
I generally love open shelving in a kitchen, because I have a love of displaying beautiful dishes. However, that backs plash is one of the worst looking I've seen. It completely swallows those dishes. Generally display should not compete with the objects, in my humble opinion.
