Sveinung Brathen

I thought I'd give you a short dose of eye candy this afternoon, via the fabulous photos of Norwegian photographer Sveinung Bråthen. I've got an emerald wall - the colour of the year says Pantone, some black - via a chalkboard wall in a dining room, a matte black kitchen cabinets (SWOON!), a black painted sections to highlight art (always been a fan of that technique), a black wall behind a black leather sofa (HOT!) and a couple of other goodies.

This is my favorite post of all time because those green books? They are ancient Greek texts. Go go LOEB! We need more Classics in interior design. :)

Emerald is a really beautiful decor color. It reminds me of Samantha's mother (shame on me for not being sure of her name right now - Elvira?) in Bewitched - I feel like her home decor would feature LOTS of decadent emerald and black.

Love those spotty lights :)

I have to question the whole 'emerald green' thing. Sure, everyone wants a new color for the year, it's always fun. But right off the mark, emerald is looking off: dated and difficult to work with outside ethnic designs. Blue can be brash and lost to nuance, but green? Now there's a hard color to get right. Lime worked, when that was the new thing; my housemate painted her room a vibrant yellow-green that's energetic and young, but with old wood and black trimmings became smart and sophisticated. I can see emerald as a grace note, but certainly not as the main palette choice.

The pictures are excellent! And I think they bear out the point. :-)

Hey, loooooove the Emerald green. It's my favourite colour + I've just been waiting patiently for the last 20 years for it to return.
Actually it's really easy to work with - use it with black sofas or do an analogous scheme with cobalt blue + a dash of orange+ ochre gold looks stunning also.
If Orenbird has doubts then send her my way.
Love the images as always. XX Josie
