Cliffhanger

Hanging from the edge of Signal Hill in Cape Town is a house for the 21st century, Head 1843 Fresnaye. Breath taking views are captured from a luxurious pool terrace. A fantasy for the entertainer with pavilion, pool and alfresco dining area. Perhaps the show stopper is the cantilevered fireplace shelf. No I take that back. The show stopper is the infinity pool with views to ... well, infinity. Antoni Associates have refurbished a SAOTA designed house and taken it to a new level. It's conspicuous wealth but oh my it's sexy in a James Bond parasailing from the pool edge, explosions and pouty Bond girl left pining pool side sort of way.

Gorgeous but I can't fathom living in a place so tensely arranged. As a hotel = yes. Home = no.

I'd have a hard time living in a house like that in a country where inequality is so very dire. Makes me kindof... sad.

Really cool but it doesn't quite seem like a home. I can't really explain why, it's not cold but at the same time it doesn't seem like a place where someone would live on a permanent basis.

very good point Alice. can't agree more. take that out of the equation and it's just the most lovely home I've seen in a long time.

Indulge worthy. I love every room. This is my kind of design.

Really Alice , is it just because it's South Africa you make a politically correct comment like that ?
I haven't notice you make any similar comments about American homes where there is just as much inequality and poverty , infact when you really think about it inequality and poverty are an unfortunate fact of life brought about by factors that are seemingly unsovable . In a perfect world we'd all live happy prosperous lives but the fact that we don't makes us all human . Wealth in itself does not automatically equate to happiness and poverty to sadness . One can be poor but rich in spirt and rich but poor in soul .
Concerning this house I agree it feels like a hotel , very impersonal but lavish in fittings and style , however what strikes me more is it's setting in which both rich and poor can share and money can't buy .
