Monday's pets on furniture - part 1 (and an update on my stray cat)
If you'd like to send me photos to include in next week's "pets on furniture" post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off...and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it's dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don't send closeups of your pet!)

This is our little boston terrier Gus. We all live in San Diego CA. Even though I am a professional photographer and spend the whole day shooting, I still come home, kick off my shoes and take pictures of the cutest dog in the world [I could be a wee bit biased]. Gus makes me smile every day. What else is that dependable!

Here are a couple of photos of our much loved havanese mix pooch, Lexi. Our sofa is actually Lexi's very large dog bed.

I had to share this one of our Cali sitting and admiring the backyard on our Ikea dining bench. We have 3 cats and this seems to be their favorite perch: they take their turns to sit on the bench.

1 - This is not right. Why is she making me sit here.
2 - Ok I guess I can do this
3 - Ok I'm safe on the 3rd floor.

Well this is Winston sitting on my desk chair. This chair was purchased for all of 10 dollars at a thrift store and it has a wonderful wood cane center. I painted the chair Ralph Lauren "polo pony white" and upholstered it in a vintage burlap sack I bought at a tag sale. It's a really a wonderful chair.... And Winston is pretty great too.

1 - These are my two poodles Louie (5) and Logan (3) laying on my bed. They think they are humans and are always sitting on some piece of furniture. Sometimes I find them laying in the bed under the covers with their heads on the pillows! People tell me their spoiled, I say their well taken care of :)
2- This is logan. Note: He's on the bed; I'm on the floor...

These are all my "pets" - Shenanigan, inappropirately lounging on a Kroehler white vinyl swivel chair we found at Goodwill for $30, Husband rocking out in a white fiberglass Eames chair knock-off from a great local vintage shop and Sophie, being good and laying on the Flor area rug (scored at St. Vincent dePaul for $30) like she should.

I have some really good news for those who had been following my pleas for a home for the stray cat I rescued. First of all, her new name is Desiree. Wednesday morning I brought Desi to my vets to get spayed. It turned out to be a likely life-saving procedure as she had a really bad infection in her uterus from being unspayed for so long (and this means she is likely around 5, not 2 like the vet initially thought). Unfortunately this procedure also turned her back into the not-so-friendly kitty she was when she wasn't in heat. The following morning an angel named Wanda drove all the way to Ottawa with her brother (she lives a 6 hour drive away), picked her up at the vets and took her to her new home. This new home is with Wanda and her other kitty named Sushi. I have no doubt that eventually, little miss Desi will become the sweetie I know she can be. I asked Wanda to send along some photos over the weekend and she obliged. The first one is the last photo I took of her, the night before she went off to the vets. The others are of Desi at her new home. Wanda, I cannot thank you enough for giving Desi the home she deserves. You are an amazing person.

As always, wonderful beautiful pets all around. And I am so pleased to hear about Desi. May she bring Wanda many years of joy.
So happy to hear that Desiree got a happy end with your help and that of Wanda.
So glad to hear Desi found a forever home! Way to go!
Desiree looks to have made herself at home with you, Wanda. She's out in the open in these pictures so that is a very good sign.
She's been through so much and now we find out, she had a bad infection in her uterus which must have been pretty painful (as we girls know).
She needs to heal and rest and then she'll trust that she is at her forever home. Hope she and Sushi get along!
Kim and Wanda, you have been her two angels. What an awesome success story.
Some lovely homes (and pets) in this one!
And so nice to hear about Desiree.
thank you so much for everything you did and have done for the animals in your community & in your life.
it really does make a difference.
thank you for going the extra mile for this cat, it made the difference between life & death.
Yay for Wanda, what a great heart!
So happy "Desi" found a forever home. Thanks for sharing.
Awww. I'm glad Desi found her forever home. The photo of her sticking out her tongue is too cute. She looks like she has lots of personality.
Love this happy ending! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sue for mentioning how Desi's undiagnosed condition was probably causing her pain all this time. A good reason for grumpy behaviour. She has slept 24 hours a day for 3 days. Today she is looking much more alert and her appetite is good and litter routine is good, so she is on the mend and hopefully will want to join the rest of the household soon. Kim was her true saviour - she got to her just in time and her caring and generosity are the reason Desi is with me now.
I love a story with a happy ending! Well done ladies! X
just look at Desi... is that the look of a contented kitty cat or what?! i feel so relieved, and i've only been reading about it! i can only try to imagine how relieved kim and hubby (and Desi) must feel! go wanda and sushi!
Dear Kim and Wanda,
it is such a relief to know that Desiree found a forever home. Both of you are angels; cat angels :-)
Wanda, it takes a special person to understand that animals are like us and can feel pain and need understanding and you are one of those people.
So good to hear Desi is healing through all of the sleep and comfort you are giving her. Thank you for sharing these pictures and hope to see more pictures of her when she is feeling better as well. She looks pretty comfy on her blanket and beds.
Kim, thank you for all your rescues of cats and for saving Desi's life and giving so much. You are an amazing person with a big heart.
This is a great happy ending to a sad story. So pleased that you cared for Desiree and so pleased that she now has a new loving home. By the pictures she looks like she is going to be well loved.
Thank you Wanda! Desi really enjoy her new home!
