Monday's pets on furniture (and something special)
Mon, 20 Feb 2012If you'd like to send me photos to include in next week's "pets on furniture" post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off...and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it's dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! This is my dog Ollie. He's one of the most full of energy excitable dog you'll ever meet but when he's spent he crashes and always looks so cute doing it.

I was contacted recently by Graham, a trustee of a cat rescue organization in the UK called the St. Francis Hospice for Cats. He heard the story about my stray cat Desiree and wants to include it in their March newsletter. This is a registered charity that cares for chronically sick, elderly and terminally ill cats. The story of how this charity came about and how they are managing now is quite sad (read about it here). I was more than happy to blog about this wonderful organization in the hopes to gain them some exposure and donations. What they do is amazing, especially after reading the history of some of their residents (including several who have FIV). Graham kindly send along several photos of some of these sweethearts which are below. So please spread the word about this wonderful charity and make a donation HERE if you can.

I donated to St. Francis of Derby. I was worried being from the US, but I used Charity Choice. It was slick and easy. My cat is almost 19 years-old. I have to get a good picture of her to submit. The problem is she sleeps in under the covers in my bed, and mostly you just see a mound. Anyway. what they are doing really touched me. Thanks for sharing.

SAINTS is an end-of-life sanctuary for senior and special needs animals that have nowhere else to go. We provide a special place to be loved, cherished, and receive proper medical care for the rest of their days. All animals deserve to have hope for a better tomorrow.
At various shelters throughout B.C., dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to find these special animals a place to finish their journey in comfort and in love. Because of their infirmities and physical challenges, many homeless senior and special needs animals have very little chance of finding a new home. SAINTS exists to help senior and special needs animals when all else fails. If we can, in time, find them a special home of their own, then we do. If that very special home never comes, they will be safe and cherished until the end of their days.
We pledge to love them, to care for them, and make their dreams come true. We promise each of them that they will never be alone again.
