Reader's home - Ottawa digs
I received an email the other day from fellow Ottawa resident Sacha that I was pretty excited about - another Ottawa reader's home tour! Sacha and his wife Melissa are a young newlywed couple who, thanks to cash gifts from their wedding, were able to work some magic on their new home (which they received the keys for the day after their wedding - talk about too much excitement in 2 days!). Having lived in a 1 bedroom apartment beforehand, this must have been a bit of a daunting task on a bit of a tight budget, however, Sacha and Melissa did such an awesome job! I love the neutral colour scheme, the funky wallpapers, the modern furnishings and the wall colours (they painted every wall! and grey is my fav!). I am shocked they did not follow a common Ottawa trend of zipping out to Ikea or Leons and buying every single piece of furniture in one trip (UGH). They have launched a new blog and interior decorating business and I foresee much success for this talented couple.

What a fantastic house/apartment! I love all the nice looking details!
Too staged for me. Anybody live there?
Wow - such a polished and modern home!
I find it too styled, it's too "magazine" somehow.
Beautiful and nicely designed, but agree too staged looking. Also everything looks brand new and sterile and too matchy matchy. I think some older things mixed in with some more colorful artwork would be great. They are lucky to have all those nice new pieces and adding some character would just make the place fabulous. A great start though!!
P.S. Love the coffee table!!
Where is the round table from?? It is to die for. My drea for sure :) Great space! I think we have the same couch in cream :)
and hello to reading in russian :)
I just removed what I consider to be a rude comment. If you'd like to behave that way in the comments, feel free but do leave a proper name, email and URL (if possible) as anonymity is cowardly, and we'd love to pick apart your home. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback readers.
@nat , If you are referring to the white and wood table in the kitchen nook, it is vintage. It was passed down to us through 2 generations. It has no markings so we are unsure of its origin or make.
love the birch (both real and as a wallpaper!)
I love the woods wallpaper. Where is it from??
Nice bedroom!!
Yes, wallpaper love! Please tell us where it's from, it's perfect!
Bravo! Newlyweds. New home. Of course everything is new here. I am suspecting a raid at Home Sense. I too think a few old, used pieces scattered here and there - but not too many - would add depth and diminish the everything new feeling. Love the birch - natural and wallpaper. By the way, they kind of illustrate what I was writing above. They have very good taste and did much on budget. So , maybe, a couple of garage sales to pick un something old, used, not too perfect will give soul to this very very good home. I love their choice of outdoor furniture.
Very sweet. Congratulations!!!
You have a great home! Can you give us info on the art above your sofa? I love it!
I think it's lovely. A little too monochromatic for my taste but that's my taste. I also think it could benefit from a bit more of an evolved over time look but that can come...over time!
As to the staging comments, i agree but I would make sure my house was "magazine worthy" before posting photos of it too.
Good luck with the business, something i'd like to do for myself but don't have the guts.
This is great, just my taste.
any ideas on what grey they used in the living room? i'm looking for the perfect silvery warm grey and that seems to be it. i'd appreciate any info, thanks!
Looks crisp and clean.
The green apples made me smile :)
@ Nat & June - The Bedroom wallpaper is called Eco Chic from Crown Wallcoverings
@ Erin lang norris - The art above the sofa I made myself! I'm actually selling copies of those prints though my graphic design business and the colors and hues can be altered to fit your decor. E-mail me if you are interested taktikal@gmail.com
@ Polish Chick - The color in the living room / dining room is Benjamin Moore AF-685 Thunder. In the family room (room with green accents) it is Benjamin Moore AF-700 Storm
Thanks again for the feedback. We were going for a "clean" look for the photos. We are constantly changing the vignettes throughout the house and next time we take photos we will definitely consider a more "lived in" look.
