{Maybe I should have added a big box filled with grass in my house reno plans, that way my cats would maybe stop bugging me to tie them up outside, and they could go eat the grass whenever they so desired and then barf it up all over my rugs}

Ha! This cracked me up. I hate the grass box, but I do love that yellow kitchen.
A bunch of the houses in the Phoenix area built in the late 70's and into 80's have these random interior courtyards. They are so heinous. Such a waste of space and they bascially act as a "heat sync" heating up the house. Nothing grows in them and they are just barren eyesores.
On a dreary & barren winter day I would love to have a patch of grass to lie on, though if it were me designing it, I'd put it in a corner to utilize exterior windows and not have it sitting in the middle of the room, drawing attention away from that rad yellow kitchen!

No more getting up at midnight to let my dog out. She could just let herself "out."

Oh, that's amazing! It's like a miniature version of the french nationa library in Paris.. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3170/2800274481_c9d9922927.jpg and plants and vegetation is proven to reduce stress in workers, so this is probably a really good idea, not just because it looks awesome :)
You could plant all herbs for cooking & garnishing. Or tomatoes. Handy. :)
Also...the outlet on the outside base? Looks like oven, internet and headphone jacks. Curious.
