Dark darling
Want. Need. Covet. Dark and moody elegance meets bright light and pool glints. It's harsh outside but oh so cool in here. Cool but warm. Hip yet luxurious. I'm drawn to the dark side and this Coogee Beach, Sydney home is sucking me in with its siren song. Hello my deep dark darling. I'm coming home. See what happens when you real estate stalk?! You want to buy a house that you can never afford but you'd sell your soul for. Need better pictures. Need to get to an open for inspection. Here while the link lasts.
(I swear this is Maggie Tabberer's old house that was then recreated by ?? and featured here on DTI. I'm having a senior moment and just can't remember who it was and I'm slowly making my way back through the archives to find it in its white incarnation. It's the frangapani tree by the pool. It echoes in my design psyche.)
Update: The house is that of Marcella Kaspar and builder/designer Mark Cooper (all expained in the comments below). Photos by Simon Kelly.

I LOOOVE IT! I want to live there now!
Can't seem to stop commenting on your blog at the mo...
If it's the same house I'm thinking of (it also had a white incarnation and a central courtyard with a frangy) it was the home of the flower painter (huuuuuuge canvases) Marcella Kaspar.

I think you're right. It is Maggie Tabberer's house. I saw it about 5 years ago featured in an Australian Women's Weekly article. I tried to find that article now but couldn't. But I did find this link to another blog that featured it when it was done in her style. It's beautiful.

I've always loved this home .. but I think I like this darker, moodier version of the home better (-:
I see it for the first time...beautiful!
Wow this house looks like the perfect place to throw swanky parties!
I've seen this house in white before as well but I have to say I love this version so much more! The dark colours and natural textures add so much intimate, casual, gorgeous character! I love the mix of super modern rooms mixed with warm colours, weathered worn timbers and linen sofas. Incredible!
I absolutely adore this house AND the sofas, and of course the pool in the 'atrium'.
I love this home. It is serene and beautiful!
WOW! Can I live here please?!?
This house is fantastic!
I love the pool! and the interior court/garden.
Loves it! *checks last night's lotto results*
This is definetly the house renovated by Mark Cooper and Marcella Kaspar. It was subsequently sold to Maggie Tabberer. It rocks with dark walls!
As soon as I saw it I recognised it as Maggie Tabberer's house - I still have the pages I ripped from the magazine as inspiration for my kitchen - wonder what happened to those beautiful marble bench tops? Like it - don't LOVE it!
Hi..I've just chanced on your blog...thanks for your feedback.. just to fill you in.. it is not a renovation on the previous house we built..It is a new house (my husband Mark Cooper built them both)..the last house we built was sold to Maggie t. and it was white in palette.,and featured in Vogue Living and British Homes and Gardens. Maggie still owns it.We then built this house in a similar footprint but larger and darker.. . So glad you love it Xmarcella
PS soo Sorry we're selling!!
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!! Every single thing about this home is amazing!!!
I have just come across your blog and this post is captivating, to say the least! As I look at the pictures all I can say is, "Oh my!" I absolutely love the mood of the space and also that the style is so eclectic. I also find fascinating blue and green in a space together. The blue is just the sky at dusk and the pool, but there is something about that color combination. Thank you!
How amazing are those light fittings. And holy moly look at that view from outside to inside I dream of owning a home like that one day .... a girl can always dream ;)
Isn't that green floral carpet in the 3rd picture amazing?!??? I also love the light fixtures throughout the house.
I thought they were two different houses, the kitchen is bigger in Marcella's house. They are both fabulous, I am in love.
I love it. What a stunning house. I want to live there!
WOWWWW! This is one of the most interesting, most beautiful, incredibly COOL homes I've ever seen. A home that seems to wrap around a small pool- just love it. It IS moody, but in the best possible way. THANKS for this post!
can you buy the floor plan to this house????
Here are the real facts: maggie Taberer bought Marcella's old house in Randwick, the white one, years ago and then had it decorated in the exact same style that Marcella had decorated it. Marcella has built a new house based on her old house in Randwick, and has transferred her furniture into the new coogee one, ie the dark one.
