Stalking on a Saturday
Not sure how I feel about today's stalking house. I want to love it. I think I do then something jars and I wonder what exactly is wrong. I love the textiles. I love the art. I love the courtyard. The playing card plunge pool doesn't do it for me. The bathroom is great but the tile is all wrong IMO. The place just seems cluttered but I know if I walked into this house I would want to explore everything, pick up the vase, touch the pillow, rub my toes into the rugs. The lighting is wrong and the photos are stretched but I still like it. Just need to pack some of it away ... and save up to change the pool tile ;) Maybe I just feel whingy and whiny today. Link to this Malvern, Melbourne home here while it lasts. Thanks to my secret real estate stalker. You know who you are. Keep up the good work.

a little too cluttered to me..but the layout is fabulous..must be such a fun place to live..thanks for sharing, jo..have a lovely weekend..xx meenal
You've summed it up Jo. I think the photography has a lot to do with the uncomfortable impression
try those guys for some more stalking: http://www.urbanspaces.co.uk/ (I have nothing to do with them, I'm just a property stalker myself)
Love the table linking the kitchen and the courtyard; how clever! I'm also not convinced by the playing card pool, and the bathroom tile reminds of that white noise fuzz you get on the TV. Otherwise, I like this house. I do like an unusual layout.
...and I like it too.
I also like the table that spans the kitchen and courtyard...but a question: it looks like there's a sliding wall across it though the table appears as one piece. I'm imagining "Oh sweetums. Be a dear and grab that end of this marble slab so we can swing it inside. Rain's on the way."
There's probably a simpler thing going on here but I can't see it. :)
I also enjoy that there's no mirror(s) in the bathroom. Much kinder first thing in the morning.
This place is too busy, too crowdy. It needs to be thoroughly edited. Too much stuff going on. The bathroom looks claustrophobic to me. I would not want to live in that place. If a house could be a patchwork, this one would be it.
About that bathroom - it looks like there's no mirror in it - but look a little closer... The mirror appears to be contributing to that claustrophobic feeling.
So many wrongs what made this right?
"The playing card plunge pool doesn't do it for me."
"tile is all wrong IMO."
"The lighting is wrong and the photos are stretched "
I guess one has to post something.
Not exactly what I desire. I don't think I would be able to live in a place like that but it would definitely be a nice place to visit from time to time. If that was my friend's place, I'd enjoy spending time there.
The windows / doors fold in to close around / over the table. Look underneath the table - or this is what I think.
LOL Tom. You always make me smile with your quips. There are things I really like about this space. I think if it was photographed correctly I wouldn't have as many quibbles. I pride myself on posting things that may not be my exact taste because that's what DTI does ...puts up a wide variety of styles because our readers have a wide variety of tastes. I think the kitchen, dining, courtyard transition is cool. (See the cat flap under the table. AMR this inside outside continuation of a table is not so uncommon in renos here. The table stays put and is weatherproof while the glass doors fold out and wrap around it as Valerie said.) This house has been sitting in my files for a number of weeks and yesterday was the day it said to me, "Come on post me or delete me". I'm a glass half full girl so the good outweighed the bad. There is inspiration here. Having said that I will never post a house full of 80s style overstuffed plaid lounges with dried flowers, country style stuffed dolls, hand painted folk art and ruffled cafe curtains. There are some rooms that should never see the light of day again :P:P:P:P:P:P
I love this house.
It looks as if every item collected has a unique and special story.
Or a secret joke that makes only you smile.
i think the difference between this photo and many others is that this house ACTUALLY looks lived in. i'm glad nothing was taken down from the walls or put into storage just for a photo shoot.
Makes sense Jo :)
You have a great eye and I always chuckle when you post something that doesn't reflect your style.
My comments may sound harsh sometimes so I'm trying not to say much :)
I do appreciate your posts and don't mean to sound rude but sometimes I have to speak out against bad design :)
I know that you appreciate and understand good design, I understand it's hard to find amazing pics to post daily.
hmmm I completely agree - I'm not totally into this house, but the spaces are quite incredible. the stuff I don't necessarily like are mainly cosmetic - that tile... oy. definitely not - not in the pool and not in the bathroom. however, the light cast by that map in the second photo is incredible. It's absolutely beautiful on the brick wall; almost surreal.
- agata.
While I would never choose a lot of things here for my own home, I admire the fact that the owner has designed a house that suits them and their personality. Design shouldn't have to always be perfect, and please everyone; just the owner! That courtyard is gorgeous, and I love the timber floor.
I love this house except for the bathroom and pool tiles, they are totally out of keeping with the rest of the space, a little flight of fancy that fails. I would feel completely at home here.
I think this is a house I would oh & ar over if it was photographed by a non real estate photographer. Take out the pool tiles & the bathroom tiles & I'd be happy in there! Its got soul & character which is a good thing!
Hmm, you are right, there's something that jars. Maybe there's just too much stuff or stuff that doesn't sit well together? I do love the table that transitions between the outside and inside though! Great post!
Thank you! This is just great! I can't even imagine this beauty!!!
Nice place, I especially like the bedroom. Cozy, and casual, and has a variety of styles. I'm not too wild about spaces where everything is "on theme." Who cares? Put in what you like, right? I love that casually painted wall in that bedroom, too.
I love this house. Some posts I can scroll by, happy to enjoy at a glance but this one made me sit-up, remove my hands from the keyboard and just take in every detail. It's gushing with inspiration. I wish there were more photos.
I love the bedroom and the bath
