Reader request - black floors

Molly wrote us last month with a request to see photos of black floors. I think black floors are HOT, and one day, when I do not have 7 cats, I shall have black floors somewhere in my home. (Interestingly, most of these are from Scandinavian websites).

I love that Douglas Hill bathroom...amazing!

Beautiful; that Douglas Hill photo is my favorite, too. I must admit though that I have black honed granite countertops in my kitchen and dang--they are like a dramatic backdrop for every crumb and speck of dust. Still, I love the look....

Besides amazingly attractive, dark floors hide scuffs well (although dust and dust bunnies do like to make a more noticeable appearance!

ahhhhhh!!! a cat on the last one!!!!! love the black wood flooring btw.... and like you i have to kill my 2 cats before having one of those floors...so sad!!! ;))

Ahhhhh! Black floors show every speck of dirt imaginable! Ditto for black counters! When I moved into my new apartment I was smitten with the black floors and tile counter in the kitchen, until I realized how hard the upkeep was.

We have a black floor in our bedroom in our weekend house (not my choice)- I hate it. It shows the slightest amount of dust and ALWAYS looks dirty. I have awhile floor in the bathroom ( my choice) and even that looks cleaner than the black. I would never recommend it unless you can afford for someone to come in and clean every day, twice!

Those are gorgeous photos!

I painted the floors in my house's upper level black. I'd like to think they're in keeping with the age (1905). The original pine planks were painted burgundy and mustard yellow and had linoleum "carpets".

I have to vacuum twice a week, though.. thank goodness my dog doesn't shed. :P

Check out black floor in my kitchen... http://www.116peter.com/photos

I renovated the house myself as I am contractor... So far no dirt issue...

one of the most beautiful and impractical ideas i've seen i a while. sorry, but for me, function is just as important as form. still... wow!

I love black floors, even though the color black always seems like such a risk it can make such an impact if you have the guts!

Love them. I love dark dark wood without red tones. So classy

As long as you get some natural light, otherwise it is way too depressing.

Don't do it! Looks good for a nanosecond then dust ruins the look!!!

I love it!!! The trick is it has to have some gloss in it, it will reflect light.

So beautiful; each photo makes me long for black floors. However, I already have a black table, and a cat, so...

The one bathroom with the tub in the floor looks super creepy. Like a film set straight out of Saw. O_O

I have black countertops in my kitchen just as some of the posters above me. DO NOT DO IT! Black shows every crumb, dust speck and hair. It needs daily upkeep. Can't imagine how awful it would be to have black floors. Black counters are bad enough. I have to agree it is beautiful though!

painted my new stairs chocolate brown and got dark brown tile for my shower floor. I have 2 dogs and am constantly in the garden. The stairs look dirty ALL the time and the tile shows all the soap scum. Both only look clean if you scrub daily! I won't do it again in the next round, even though they do look great when clean.

Wow! Some of those pics are gorgeous. I knew black walls could be beautiful and made a bold statement, but I never really considered a black wood floor. Stunning.

I like the concepts as shown in the gallery. But I prefer black floors for a mezo styled kitchen. I think it is a thing of beauty.

I am amazed at the people complaining about dirt being noticeable - why on earth are they letting it accumulate ?!

Laminate flooring with beveled edge offers ultra natural look. Thanks for posting this blog.
