BLACK & POOLE

Please pardon me if you find me fixated on dark hued rooms in the next few weeks. My sample pots are on their way and the painter starts in a few weeks. Excited? Maybe. No really am I excited? Maybe. Really? OK I can't wait! I'm turning to the dark side in a very big way. And this lovely home? Look at those black walls. So warm when teamed with the creams and off whites. Lovely textures, splash of colour here or there, cute window treatment ideas (stealing that simple button top roll up blind idea). Interiors by Gretchen Kubiak of BLACK & POOLE. (Photography by Jason Varney).

Me too, me too! I love dark backgrounds and have scored one black wall in my house but I'm having trouble convincing my husband to let me do more! Your photos might do the trick .... let me see... there's the laundry.....the office.... the fireplace .......!

Dark walls can be totally stunning. There is an almost Prussian blue wall in our house that we inherited from the previous owner. I never would have thought to choose it but I really, really love it! So much so that I'm going to try and recreate it after our renovations are complete (the current wall is being massively altered).

Cute. Except those pillows on the couch :P

I love these images! The dark wall really help make everything look instantly sophisticated as well. Also, I can't wait to try to make that windowshade- so perfect!

loving all the dark walls..the white shelves look so elegant against it..can't wait to see your paint project..have a lovely day..do visit my blog when you have a moment..xx meenal

The styling in the shots, that uplifting rawness of the natural world, of seemingly unrefined materials, and the paint, are so so me.

WE should not be afraid of dark walls ! So sophisticated!

Zoinkies that's pretty! But are we to forgive the peach in the kitchen?

I do love the dark walls. Anna from Door Sixteen has a dark navy wall in her bedroom and it looks amazing in the photographs. I think I would lean towards a really, really dark navy rather than black, but that's just me :) Yay for painting! Have fun!

we just moved into a new condo, and the first thing i did (as soon as i picked up the keys from the realtor, in fact) was repaint the bedroom walls. all other walls are neutral enough for me to handle them, but the bedroom walls were minty green! some sort of weird 90's left-over (what were you thinking, benjamin moore?) and now? now they look like a lovely dark chocolate covered with a little bit of a silvery bloom. love it. i always feel cosy in a dark bedroom.

Wow! I never really thought that I loved dark walls in common living rooms, but these are amazing!

I feel like dark walls can make a room feel so closed in, but these do the opposite, especially the first one...I looove that room!

A modern elegance with a touch of vintage. Black & white is a sophisticated combination in interior design, as it in fashion. :)Ada

Actually ... my "black" wall is a rich blue black and I LOVE it!

I am the proud owner of a dark dark olive wall in our bedroom...and I just love it. I must admit however, that I have always secretly thought, that high(er) white painted skirtings would just make it look even more ....luxurious. I think that a dark wall is just too gorgeous

Thanks everyone for the amazing comments! The living room color is a true black and the dining room is an exterior navy call Liberty Blue by Sherwin-Williams. The project was a really rewarding, as teh client was open to anything!

LOVE THEM TOO! BUT CONSIDER CAREFULLY HOW MUCH AND WHERE YOUR USING THE SATURATED COLOR.....CAN BECOME VERY TIRING ON THE EYES, CAVENOUS..................

I completely love the use of dark and light as contrasting elements. I would never have expected black painted walls to be so elegant, but the creams and whites give the room a beautiful look. This color palette could easily be adjusted for different seasons, too, with the addition of colorful elements.

I saw the first photo on apartment therapy and absolutely loved it. So many gorgeous details!

Does anyone know what photographer that print is from? I'd love to know. I'm not usually one for seascapes, but this one seems to have power rather than sentiment--it's captivating!
