Reader's home - a California dream

Peggy Dupuis (of Dupuis Design) wrote us about her recently decorated California home and I had to share it wih you all because she lives in quite the pad! The home is pretty spectacular, with breathtaking views, floor-to-ceiling windows, moveable walls to open the living room to the backyard which features a pool. YEAH, the parties that could be had at Peggy's house. :-) Thanks Peggy!

wow! Love the red wall!

The place is a little too large for my taste, but it's always nice when people prefer bright, low-key and easy-going homes even when they can afford some status symbol filled gaudy set-up. The front yard looks like a nice, low-maintenance deal.
Thanks for the post!

Love how the interior space opens up into the pool area.

Hi Kim and very nice commenters..... It's really small compared to a what you would call S Cal home. You'd be surprise when we were hunting for a house 3 years ago,....nothing was less than 5000 sq ft with bathrooms the size of our living room argh argh argh lots to clean, no intimacy, and no spirit at all.... I had a feeling that the bigger the better was the issue in S Cal.. We ended up looking for buildable lands (in areas were there are ocean view, it is horribly expensive and the land were all on steep hills with only about 1/8 of the lands are flat, isn't that nuts that people want to spend more on their foundation than their home) We found our modest size dream land in a quite modest town of San Clemente. Fell in love with the view and the sunset, land perfectly flat, we built it with not one inch wasted. Thanks to our super honest and extremely meticulous contractor, Malone Brothers from SD, we wouldn't have built it so perfectly without them.

After that it's all a love story, really feel good in our home, great feng shui (as I do some feng shui for my work as well) and we have really lovely down to earth neighbors, who help us a lot and take care of our home when we are in the other continent.

Hey, Kim when you are in the area let me know, come by for sunset, wine and home made food. you have my email and number. I'll be there all summer !!

Thank you for posting on your site. :-)

I love the bookcases, how on the upper story they change from tan to white and in the office they are... slanted, right? Or is it just me?

Either way, I highlight this detail because the space is truly breath-taking and oozes life and openness. I like the modern feel, where everything is clean, orderly and yet still very accessible for...as one commentator mentioned... an awesome party!

I'm saving this post for that one day when I can construct my dream house. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Hello Domestic group Crisis ! Love your music, put it on my facebook and sent it to my son who plays the drum (amateur). Unfortunately, won't be in California until July, we are planning a housewarming at that time let me know when your group will be around.

Hello Eric, the big curved bookcase I designed my self it is a mixture of natural oak and white. Yes the office bookcase is slanted, the contractor wanted to fix it straight :-) Contact me instead to do your future home, am sure I can design the home of your dreams.

thank you again for all your very positive comments.

Peggy, I've never been to L.A. (bummer) but if I ever make it out there I'll take you up on your offer!
P.S. My husband was drooling over these photos - I think he's packing his bags and moving in!

Wow! What can I say? This is an amazing home. I'm a water girl, so the pools really appeal to me (as well as the ocean view). The kitchen is gorgeous. All of it is incredible. I could never afford a home like this, but I sure would love to be a houseguest in one like it -- a few nights of bliss.

This is just a gorgeous, gorgeous home! Peggy, you did a wonderful job! Despite the very contemporary feel of your house, it really feels like a home. You have maintained an interesting and lively balance between 'cold' material (the concrete floor, the steel, the glass, etc) and much warmer elements (the timber, the dashes of red and hot pink), between masculine (the overall 'squareness' of the house) and feminine shapes and feel (the curved bookshelves, the whishbone chairs, the round bed, the wallpaper in the bedroom, the pretty flowery cushions, the curvy pool, etc). Your house screams harmony and joy. It is very inspiring!

I think this is a fantastic house! Even though it's super modern it doesn't feel cold or sterile. The bright pops of colour and fun details (like the chalkboard wall) give it personality and a sense of humour.

Love the dark tile in the bathroom! Reminds me of the tones in abalone shells, one of my favourite things.

omg! What a GORGEOUS home and that pool area is to die for! That leaning bookshelf tho... that makes me dizzy! Totally neat, but I am too OCD for something like that... I want to "fix" it. LOL! Thanks for sharing!

Love the way you worked with SPACE, thanks for sharing!

I love the interiors of this house. So much windows to let the light in. So many couches and chairs which is great for entertaining people or starting a party and the utmost beautifully themed rooms to give it a soothing aura.
