Cue the violins

I don't really know what to write as an intro to this post. Basically I am stressed out and preoccupied to the max and my brain is just not functioning up to par. My day job has been REALLY busy for ages, we're trying to get plans finished for the house which is a little tough working with an architect AND designers (both of whom are swamped), I have a French test (for said day job) the day after Easter weekend that if I don't pass may mean having to leave my team (where I have worked for my entire career as a public servant) and go back to programming - something I REALLY don't want to do. And I f*cking hate tests, especially verbal ones. With that whining, I leave you with some photos from Avotakka, a very cool Finnish magazine. (P.S. I really want to make a floor lamp like the one in the first photo.)

I'm sorry you're stressed out, Kim! I appreciate your honesty. I'm a little stressed out too but for not nearly as many good reasons as you have. Haha.

Best of luck on the French test Kim!

Hi Kim, very inspiring post. I've been itching to make lamps lately out of driftwood. Have you ever done that? Thank you, also, for your honesty. I'm sorry you are stressed out, but I appreciated reading it. I sometimes really beat myself up when I read blogs because everyone seems so perfect. I had a very hard day this week and wanted to write about it on my blog and decided not to . I know you will be fine on your test. You are amazing.

Wow I'm drowning in new ideas from this post! Maybe I should just start redecorating the whole house. That blue floor was enchanting.

i say: a cup of tea and a moment to enjoy the sunshine in ottawa today.
tout sera bien!

or, if you really need some help, come by the manx and i'll pour you a nice irish whisky!

sending you good vibes!

Ahhhh Kim, I loved your opening paragraph. It makes my day have purpose. Weird isn't it? How you can be tangled and conflicted and yet your sheer honesty and guts to call it like it is, freezes me in my tracks. I think about the new blog I'm building content for, the artists in Australia interpreting my vision in web building from sketches, the fortitude to change my life from following up on contractors, as an interior designer, to loading up images in front of a computer. I ask myself: "Is this a 'part time=full time job' you're signing up for Carolyn? Is this the most stark raving ridiculous thing in the universe, you've ever put in front of yourself?" and then I visit your blog and see and feel the two of you. So real. So alive. Your fresh content in photos and words about choices and living in the trenches and the everyday, and a tripod lamp you want to make. And I'm feeling ok, with it all. I wonder why oh why do I keep on going? Because damn, if I could be as good as you, and consistently provide the service you give, for inspired viewers like me,.....it might all be worth while!
Graciously yours,
Carolyn

the first image is my dream bedroom. sparse but beautiful.
- agata.

Um, like Carolyn said.
I LOVE your posts. Thank you for all your work.
PS I'm sure this won't help, but when I have to speak French I need to be really ticked off. It does something to the brain, like I dunno, takes the self consciousness out of the equation so only language comes out?
I hope you don't have to stick yourself with a pin before the test. Or, maybe you should?
Bon chance, choux. (ha, I wasn't even ticked off!).

You'll pass the test! I too had to prove my knowledge of French to stay in the public service. Just listen to Radio-Canada non-stop, remain calm and you'll do great!

You are my idol. Keep calm and carry on. Best of luck on all aspects, someone who works as hard as you deserves just reward.

Good luck on your french test! Inspiring stuff. Lamp in first photo is lovely.

You should be very proud of what you and Jo have achieved through DTI - a genuine, caring, vibrant online community. One only has to read the above comments of support to know that's true. Good luck in your test Kim - we're all gunning for you.
Sammy :)

I am loving the colored painted floors with the white walls! stunning. I have to thank you so much for this blog. I have been a faithful follower for years now, and having just bought our first ever house, even though it's only our weekend house, I have been able to put so much of my inspiration gained from your blog into my house. last weekend, I painted my bathroom floor white...and love it...something I don't think would ever have occurred to me to do in the past. Thank you. And good luck with your French test.

Good luck with everything! All you can do is your best, and that's what you always do, it shows in your posts. So don't worry. You know the stuff, you've studied, now relax and continue to do things the way you're used to doing them. Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. You have all of us sending good vibes your way!

alors bonne chances pour ton test de français!!!
ce que j'adore le plus dans cette série de photos est le sol bleu chewing gum. je suis tentée de le reproduire chez moi. ...

Let's all have a go then, so you'll feel inspired =)

En effet ce sol bleu est absolument génial, personnellement je n'y aurais jamais pensé, mais ça donne un côté méditerranéen très sympa.
Merci et bonne chance pour le test de français, tout ira bien !
