Airstream dreams

Can a girl go weak at the knees over a caravan? Oh please! This ain't no caravan. She's a sleek and shiny 70s era Airstream. This baby was lovingly restored by Santa Barbara architect Matthew Hofmann. She's small, efficient, renovated with recycled and sustainable materials and is the live + work space for Matthew and his girlfriend. But most importantly she is sexy! Alas she wasn't always this hot. More like hot mess as you will see after the jump.

I would love to know (a) how much he purchased the Airstream for, and (b) how much money he put into it to get it looking like that.

I, too, would love to know the cost of such a beauty.

Nicely done!

I was just at a RV/Trailer show a few weeks ago. I hope all the manufacturers find airstream-dreams. They need to.

Ok, I'm inspired. I have a 1969 Airstream Safari that needs this very kind of uplift. Thanks for posting the photos.

Folks, he spent some serious money doing that renovation. If it was for a client, that person might have been able to buy a new Airstream for about the same amount of money. Of course, the bathroom certainly is not stock.

"Sexy" is an understatement! I'd like one of each... The Caravan, AND the GUY! Please??
A1Morgan - is a gal...

My son just sent me this because he thought I would love it. In short, I do.

The architectural lines of the Airstream exterior and interior re-design are so seamless.
Function and form - integrated. I find the photos very beautiful, pleasing, inspiring. They show a lot of exceptional creativity, careful thought, love and care.

I'll clutter my enthusiasm if I write more.

In two words,: "magnificent creation."

I'll keep my eyes open for this architect.....

Lucky will be those who hire this architect.... and/or feel their own desire to inspire a creative process like this.

Very inspiring! In the West there will be more people choosing to live in motorhomes and caravans by the time this decade has run. They'll be so much better for it! Recently I came so close to buying an old Mercedes 811D however it's quite a liability to undertake, finding a place to park it during the week was proving fraught and English winters are bloody cold!

Just curious if you ended up selling your Airstream? I just bought a gutted '67 Globetrotter (20 ft) and I plan to go more modern with it.

Any advice?
