Monday's pets on furniture

If you'd like to send us photos to include in next week's "pets on furniture" post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off...and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it's dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don't send closeups of your pet!)

I am sending you a picture of my dog Dyrgja (14 years old). I just finished furnishing my sisters apartment and desire to inspire has been a great help. Thank you! I actually found the inspiration for the 'Hi!' in the picture on desire to inspire. When you blogged about Mark Zeff in September I was instantly in love with the 'Vicious' sign on the wall and it looked like something I could DIY, so I decided to make a big sign for my sisters living room – this is how it turned out.
- Annette (Germany)

As stately as King sometimes is and Lord over his manor, his favorite chair and best hangout spot ever seems to be under his State portrait beaming for all the world to see…
- Arthur (Washington, DC)

On photo there is my 6 years old french bulldog Maximus...he loves comfortable furniture and this is my ikea chair:) and he loves me and my writer boyfriend.
- Arnela (Slovenia)

I've attached a picture of my cheweenie (chihuahua/dachshund mix) named Ty for your consideration. I was taking pictures of my patio for my blog when Ty just hopped up on one of the lounge chairs. He posed himself in every shot and I think he really added to my photo shoot. Don't worry though. He hasn't let the fame change him.
- Cheryl (Baton Rouge, LA)

This is FannieBelle (named after my great grandmother) my pet hedgehog! Here she is pictured on an antique bedside table that I painted silver. She loves running around around my room but if I take my eye off her, even if for only a second, she quickly scurries off to explore new nooks and corners.
-Sophie

This is Hudson, he helped me study for the Bar Exam all summer. As you can tell, it was exhausting.
- Rebecca (New Orleans, Louisiana)

This is a photo of my cat Ripley, she is looking very elegant here but moments before I took this she had literally just pushed her sister off the table with her paw. Sibling rivalry at it's best
- Giulia (London, UK)

I LOVE the portrait!! Arthur where did you have that done, or did you do it yourself? - we have been looking to do something like this with our noble little french bulldog :)

I love the Hi! sign and the portrait of King !
@ Annette: could you tell me how you have done the sign, espacially what kind of lamps you are using for the effect.
@Arthur: could you tell me where you have done this?

thank you both.

Yay pets! Annette, how in the world did you DIY that "hi!" sign? Cool!

@Mark and Christa: It was really rather easy to make the sign.
- I bought these little lamps they have at fun fairs, amusement parks... I have now idea how they are called in English? Probably carnival lights, amusement lights, cabochon lights? You can find them on actionlighting.com. They have pin sockets that make wiring very easy and quick.
- draw whatever shape you like on a thin piece of MDF (e.g. 1cm) and cut it out
- I applied 2 layers of golden acrylic paste with a palette knife so it looks like metal (looks nice even when the lights are turned off)
- drill holes for the lamps in exactly the size of the socket
- screw tight the caps of the lamps and the sockets (no further fixing needed)
- connect (or have an electrician do it for you) the lamps in a parallel circuit and you are done – ta-da!!!
I used small eyebolts and wire (on the back of the sign) and nails to mount the thing to the wall, but I guess that depends on your wall.
