My grandmother taught me to make braided rag rugs, woven together properly with twine like catsav's, not sewn which makes too weak a joint. I found bags of couture samples in wonderful tweeds, mohairs and worsteds in Soho and made thick rugs for my old brick floors in France - they were perfect there. I haven't thought of them for a while!
Hello! your posts are always very inspiring and you find the greatest examples! If you or any of your readers are interested, I have some vintage handwoven rag rugs for sale in my etsy shop (which you can find by clicking here ), and also many others which are not yet posted, but please feel free to email me if interested!
Oh, these are just lovely - they took me right back too... my mum made me two lovely blue and lilac rag rugs when I first had my own place, and seeing how sweet these ones look makes me think I'm going to have to hunt down whereabouts they've gone and ended up since moving...
I am an avid reader of your blog and it was so fun coming across this post because the top image is so familiar to me since it belongs to a friend of my family. I spent many afternoons in her Studio and attached shop drinking up inspiration so it was great to see it featured on here.
