Eckersley Garden Architecture
It's a quiet start to the week on Desire to Inspire. Our American friends are celebrating the 4th of July long weekend away from their computers but that doesn't mean that the rest of us don't want something inspiring for a Monday. Rick Eckersley designs gardens that are, quite frankly, gorgeous. Practical, livable and just so inspiring. Rick and partners Scott Leung and Myles Broad are some of the foremost garden designers in Australia and it's not hard to see why. The website is a treat with so many beautiful gardens as well as sections on focal points, plantings, pools and more. Today I've chosen two of their designs. The first is a suburban backyard complete with vege patch and chickens. The second, after the jump, is a new twist on an Australian native garden. Love!

How I love Rick Eckersley's work - it is loose yet structured, and he incorporates hard landscaping so well - that little jetty is wonderful.
And those huge wooden herb pot things. Divine.
Wow. I need that oasis of a pool.
Oh to dream love the first pics but I guess you probably know that.
Thank you for your post about our gardens. It is nice to hear people talking about the spaces we have created for our clients and great to see you have an appreciation for what we do. Keep an eye out for us, as our website will be updated soon and we have lots to talk about on our blog www.e-ga.com.au/blog. Thank you again for the post.
Loose and yet structured--the best place to be at all times! Really beautiful.
Awesome, inspirational post!
Hi. These pics are stunning. I saw another pic from the site I wanted to save for inspiration. Can you tell me how you were able to save these???? Thanks. I love your site! Chris
Hi Chris,
Glad you liked the photos from our website. As it is a flash site you can't download, but if you use your Print Screen key, grab or snipping tool you can create a screen shot.
Alternatively, you can email me at info@e-ga.com.au and I can send them to you. Thanks!
Those are both great looking yards. I can't even imagine having a huge pond like that! Pretty sweet dock too.
All very predictable, when is rick going to create something new....
Hi Dick,
You can see a variety of gardens designed by Rick, Scott and Myles on our website or blog. Yes, there is a thread which runs throughout most of the gardens, because we have discovered what works.
We do however; design to a clients brief and in response to the site, so no two gardens we design are the same. I would say there are several others designers you could use the term 'predictable' to define them, but predictable Rick is not.
Keep following us - you never know the next garden we design could blow your mind!!
These gardens are beautiful! I am lucky to get a single plant to grow in my yard, I can't imagine actually looking out my window and ever seeing something so amazing. The choice to plants along with the woods and stones, makes the entire atmosphere seem so effortless and natural. One thing I think is so cute and I bet could be built easily is the bench. I would have to search for the perfectly shaped pieces though, that one looks so comfy with the curved back! Thanks for sharing these pictures!
Awesome designs! Thanks for sharing the pics this give an idea of the having a beautiful garden in surrounding.
It's an amazing garden structure. I have never seen anything like before in a long time. It's totally wonderful garden. How can you just manage it. It's amazing.
This is such a great post! I love it. These pictures are amazing.
