A home in Italy

I found the 16th century retreat of Italian fashion and jewelry designer Maria Calderara on the Marie Claire Maison Italy site and I think it's the perfect ending to a chaotic work week (not only did my fiancé and his cats move in and we had a 5 day or so heat wave but I also started a new job.) I could use a little serenity, calm and peacefulness like this home exudes right about now. Maria's refuge from her work life in Milan is exquisite. It is white and cream and simple and relatively unadorned which is perfect in such a beautiful setting. I love that there are hints of modernity here and there providing contrast to the rustic shell of the home, with a couple Tolomeos, Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chairs and a Gaetano Pesce Donna chair.

Kim:
I hope you can experience some serenity yourself, this weekend in the spirit of this lovely place. ;o) Thank you for sharing---I love the way Italians live modernly in the buildings of the old world. ~Sparky-Jean

I could live there. Love the books idea. Going to steal it for the new house (no money for new shelves right now)

So Jeff and his boys have moved in? How is the feline tribe getting along?

Maura, the feline boys moved in last Friday. Domino was quite the demon at first but after only a few days he settled in nicely. He just needs to learn to stop trying to chase the others cause they SO aren't interested in that game. Inky, being the shy guy that he is, has spent the last few days in the basement mostly laying behind the washing machine or the furnace. (Ew - so dirty behind both). Jeff has been here since Monday but we have to finish moving the rest of his stuff by the end of the month. It's nice to be back living with him again. I just wish he didn't have so much stuff.
I can't wait to see pics of your new place!

I love the exposed wooden beams in the ceiling!! And I love the arches, too! (Two of my favourite things!)

What a gorgeous serene home, what a pleasure it must be to to live in. On a the kitty front - I've just had a little tearaway move in too, he's causing all sorts of havoc!

My goodness. What a beautiful home. All the light, and the decor is too fab. Love the quirky pops of color. But they are never too much, just the right amount to make the home still look sparse. I want to move in.

Wow! It's incredible how my lake garda house after 10 years old of shooting is loved! Just amazing!
The bed linens are homemade by my old lady that did babysitting me at 5 years old ( perhaps) but it was bought at stands in france one sunday...
the pile of books are an economy way of lots of books that we don't know where to put... so pile everything!
the tower is composed by 5 floors and the rest of the house is of 2 floors!
It's not a Villa, but a big house with a lot of garden... and it was my childhood summer house!

P.s. I'm the daughter of the stylist!

Thanks for stopping by Blanche! You are so fortunate to have lived in such an incredible home, and to have such a talented mother!!
