A little happy for your Friday
Fri, 5 Feb 2010As usual, it's freezing here in Ottawa and I have just about HAD IT with winter. I thankfully decided to take a little 10 day trip to Puerto Vallarta at the end of the month to meet up with my folks who are there for 6 weeks. While I'm on that topic, if anyone happens to know of any interesting shops that sell decor items or architecture I should photograph (I'm bringing all my camera gear) in PV PLEASE email or leave a comment. Unlike my other visits there, this time around I'd like to do something besides laying around the pools (although I still plan to do ALOT of that).
Back to the real reason for this post. I found these adorable little cabins in Stuart McIntyre's portfolio when I was working on yesterday's post of his work. Grass, flowers.....I almost forget what summer feels like.

Definitely go to "Old Vallarta" across the bridge. There is a tile making factory there that is great, and it's much more authentic than the main touristy part of PV. If you do get a chance to get out of the city, head to Sayulita about 45 north of the city (you can take the bus that costs about $3). Have fun! Can't wait to see the pics.

I agree with Thea, go to Old Vallarta outside the tourist area. If you can rent a car and want a beautiful adventure, go to Tonala outside Guadalajara. (I think there are tour buses, too). That is where all the craftsman make everything. You can get gorgeous tile, ironwork, glass and furniture. The prices are amazing- a lot better than in PV. I think it is around a 5 hour drive. My husband and I took a couple days to go there and did not regret it. Guadalajara is an amazing city, too.
I will be staying in Sayulita for the last two weeks of February. We're making an escape from the Olympics here in Vancouver!! I haven't been before but have been hearing nothing but good things about the place. It's about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta. Drop me an email if you decide to stop by... :) I'm hoping to do a little of the same... explore and hopefully discover some inspiring little shops and galleries. Tonala sounds like an interesting place to visit. Have got that marked down on my list of possibilities... ;)
hi ! i am from guadalajara, and yeah if u can make the trip to the city and get to see tonala and tlaquepaque u are gonna be so happy u did that ! guadalajara is ana amazing city and its full of crafts . Sayulita is a full time surf spot ! and u can take amazing pictures there...i fully recomend stayin until u get to watch the sunset...its quite a thing. Punta de mita and bahia de banderas are amazing spots too and for food, peae and quiet, ask a local taxi driver to take u to boca de tomates...its a little local secret beach at the end of nuevo vallarta , the food is amazing, cheap, safe and u can get a lot of beach for yourself. Enjoy ! i love my country !best wishes !

PV is wonderful.
If you get a chance you should take a day trip to Yelapa. My husband and I honeymooned at Verana which is in Yelapa. They have a WONDERFUL day spa...camera worthy!
