A tiny grand design
It's a tiny house with Grand Designs. This itsy bitsy 5 level Surrey Hill's house is the creation of Woods Baggot principal Domenic Alvaro. Domenic and his partner Sue Bassett could not afford the price tag of a house in this trendy inner Sydney suburb. What they could afford was a carpark. So this is what they did. Bought a 3 car space and built up and up and up. Featured on Australia's LifeStyle Channel as part of their Grand Designs series you'll find so much more on their website. Befores, afters and video walk throughs as well as more clever Aussie homes. Clever design solution! Stunning views! To die for roof top garden! The steps would keep you fit!

A great use of space in such a small site and some really nice furniture pieces.
You'd certainly get fit climbing all those stairs, especially with the shopping!
Wow...I love it - so chic and sophisticated!!
absolutely brilliant!
Stunna!
Wow!!!
Otherwise, I'm speechless!
Wow, incredible!
For such a tiny little "minute" of a house, it feels so spacious inside! Nice job.
absolutely beautiful ...
Bonjour,
Effectivement c'est très chic, un peu sobre à mon goût mais mon mari adore !
Grand Designs Australia is killing it! Absolutely loving the series!
That is such an inspiring story - made me feel all warm inside! It's so lovely to hear of people who think creatively and make something so wonderful happen. Thanks for sharing this! xx
One has to admire people who take a small property like this and transform it into their dream space ..however without sounding too negative after having the privilege of seeing this property feature on the "Lifestyle Channel" I was a little disappointed with the things that could've have been included into the overall design but weren't to make this space more liveable for it's occupants ....the kitchen I think was situated on the 3rd floor and there is no lift ..just imagine dragging all your groceries up all those stairs , even a "dumb waiter" would have made a significant difference . Also I think having a study area on the roof terrace level is a bit strange and a wasted opportunity for the space as a whole .
Love Oz Grand Design, especially this episode.
In Asia and Europe such building would be the norm in term of house layout. Narrow small land, tall condense building. This should be a template for other house design in urban areas.
I walk past this everyday and have always been amazed. Now I know how beautiful it is inside and on top!
