Stella Nicolaisen encore

There's a grittiness yet a softness to stylist Stella Nicolaisen's work. The shots come across as so real and everyday but each room is so special and beautiful. Stella's work was featured here almost a year ago but she has changed  rep agency and that means more lovely photos for us to "ooh" and "aah" over. I love the soft washed out feel of these images. Drowsy, blowsy, cozy and comforting.

Okay, Tim Gunn is totally against the stylist approach over designer. Who wouldn't believe Tim? I've seen stylist work that was no more than a collection of objects blocking access to doorways, tubs, chairs -- and no matter how very cool those tableaus are -- meh. But This Is Good. This is How To Live. So how does this not rate as design? I've done the work, and STILL don't get how one person rates as designer, and the next doesn't. Is it simply working with what is there, instead of spending insane amounts of money?

The deep blue, on the cushions, on the rug, the wall -- OMG. Blue is so difficult to get right.

I'm really loving the trend of using pretty dresses/gowns as wall decor.I would love to see more clothing used that way.I tapped into a gorgeous photostream of beautifully intricate embroidery on mexican peasant blouses....they would look wonderful used as wall "candy" in the right room.....Thanks for this post.I can't get enuff of these wonderful pics!

oregonbird, anyone can walk into a high end furniture shop, spend all sorts of cash, bring it home and voila, it's decorated. But it's working with what is there, or working with found objects and using them in unique ways that REALLY makes a space, and makes it worthy of a photo.

The first photo of the bedroom is UNREAL. SO gorgeous. The decor and the photography. And I must find some stools to wrap in fabric.

I totally agree. Even beautiful decor can look awkward without the proper touch and a good eye. The details in these shots are amazing...love the differing, decorative tile leaning up against the white subway tile and used again as a coaster.
